Hi,
have you tried writing to the local FoD newspapers, I'd have thought this story might well interest them ("human interest" etc), and they may even help research it. This FH website is always quiet at this time of year compared to the winter months, whereas the local newspapers are still being read all year around, and someone may read your letter and help you.

This old post of mine may help you in this respect, I certainly do hope so as it's the sort of story (military history) that intrigues me.
