thank you for the information on old maps and yes, Chestnuts Lodge is exactly where I described the remaining footings with a couple of courses of red brick still here and there in the mid 1950's.

It was a strange sort of place then, the complete Chestnuts enclosure had been cleared and replanted, and on the very top about 50 yards from a small (two acre?) field / clearing were these remains of a building surrounded by half a dozen red plum trees!
