Woolaston Waterman: Severn OR Wye ? (General)

One of my "stock" reference sites is the British History site which is easily searched.
Entering "Woolaston" and "watermen" gives the following hit, if you track down the extensive texts the search "hits" are highlighted green.
Interestingly, perhaps, until now I'd always assumed we were discussing Severn watermn, with Woolaston village being on said river.
HOWEVER I now see that during the mid 1800s, as we're discussing, Woolaston PARISH was extended to include parts of the lower Wye at Brockweir etc.

Do you know whether your John Roberts is actually in Woolaston aka Severn, or could he be a Wye waterman ??.
