Jane TURLEY/HAWKINS - previous thread (General)

I don't know if this helps but my research into the Sterry family from those parts gives an indirect Turley-Hawkins link. It's bitty and some of it is cobbled from somebody else's research involving IGI. Only some pieces are corroborated by the transcribed parish records index on here or by any other sources, but I'll tell you what my scribbles say.

Mary Ann Sterry, born c. 1823, married Edward Turley born c. 1916, whose father was Thomas Turley born c. 1796 whose wife's forename was Nancy. I don't have her surname. That gives you a Turley of possibly close relationship to the Jane you're looking at, although I haven't turned up a Jane myself.

Mary Ann Sterry's parents were William Sterry (c. 1794 Awre - 1866 Werstbury-on-Severn RD) and Ann nee Shaw (1793-1871 Westbury.)

The Shaws, like the Sterrys and Turleys, are recorded as an Awre family, but in those days Awre included Blakeney, and extended to Viney Hill, Blakeney Hill, Furnace Bottom and thereabouts.

Ann Shaw's parents were James Shaw (c. 1761-1819) and Christian nee Bevan born c. 1773. Christian's parents were Thomas Bevan and Christian Hawkins, both born c. 1731 Awre. The parents of Christian Hawkins were William Hawkins born c. 1742 and Elizabeth, maiden name unknown. The parents of William were Edward Hawkins who married Anne Bedoes or similar. Some sources give Edward as born Awre c. 1680 but I think the parish register gives him as "of Newland," and the Newland registers include an Edward Hawkins baptised there on 12 Sep 1651.

The Sterrys and the Turleys were prolific in the generation game, and in all the circumstances I'd be surprised if you couldn't eventually knit up Turley and Hawkins in several strands.
