Re Jonas Marshall c late 1700s I also tried searching via the LatterDay Saints site and this has thrownup an unusual spelling variant that you may not have considered thus far, I know I wouldn't have. It does appear within this site's FoD PRs but is not flagged using Soundex, namely MARTIAL etc.
Searching these variations may help extend your lines ?
