Ewart (Tommy)WOOD; why a Blacksmith ?. (General)
Re "keep searching", by complete and lucky coincidence while answering another forum post I spotted a name on a Trade Directory that I must followup as a likely new member of my mother's tree !.
AND, on that very same 1868 Directory is a "William Wood, blacksmith" at Bilson Woodside, ie St John's/Ruspidge end of Cinderford !.
Do you have a William in your tree ? Could he have been a link to Ewart's future blacksmith career, an Uncle perhaps ??.

He was still there in Ewart's time, in 1894 and 1902;

Quite a few William WOOD PRs in Cinderford St John, but this looks like maybe him;

Always worth searching this forum, this old thread relates, too late for me to read it in case it dashes my hopes for a Ewart link !
