Hi David, you're welcome.

It looks like the same family group to me, clearly they were enduring very hard times, struggling to get food or firewood. Looking at some of the original PRs entries on Ancestry, very easy to see why the handwritten Malson, Melson and Milson have been mistranscribed as well as mis-recorded, but not MalsoMs etc.

Looking thro the PRs shows Elizabeth is an oft-used Milson/Melson/Malson name, but I can only find one David; his parents' details seem correct, here are his family's Baptisms;

Year Parents_Surname Child_Forenames Fathers_Forenames Mothers_Forenames Mothers_Surname Residence Occupation Parish_Chapel

1861 MALSON David, George & Elizabeth, Hawthorns, Mason, Drybrook
1864 MALSON Levi, George & Elizabeth, Hawthorns, Stone Mason, Drybrook
1866 MALSON Eliza, George & EZ, The Hawthorns, Mason, Drybrook,
1868 MALSON Elizabeth, George & Elizabeth, Drybrook Mason, Drybrook
1876 MALSON Mark Edward, George & Elizabeth, The Morse, Stone Mason, Drybrook

So David born 1861, so aged 15 when described as a "boy" caught with his mother in 1878.

GlosBMD gives this Marriage;
Groom Surname Groom Forename Bride Surname Bride Forename District Parish Building Year Register Entry
MALSON George JONES Elizabeth Forest of Dean Drybrook Holy Trinity 1860 1 260
MALSON George BANNISTER Elizabeth Forest of Dean Drybrook Holy Trinity 1860 1 260

The full PR shows George is a Mason of the Hawthorns (ie Drybrook Quarry), both are Widows

------------

The mother Eliza of the following births is the above-mentioned daughter of George and Elizabeth, so David's younger sister. My post showing her marriage to Thos Cooper shows David as a witness, he was 29yrs then.

Year Parents_Surname Child_Forenames Fathers_Forenames Mothers_Forenames Mothers_Surname Residence Occupation Parish_Chapel
1885 MILSON Conrad, [not stated], Eliza, Nailbridge, [not stated], Drybrook
1889 MALSON Thomas Barnard, [not stated], Eliza, Haywood Lane, Drybrook

HOWEVER as well as the above Baptisms there are several Malson Burials abt this time in this same Micheldean/Abenhall & nearby Drybrook areas, some of which from our Drybrook branch of what I suspect is the same extended family;

Year Month Day Surname Forenames Residence Age_at_death Parish_Chapel
1867 Aug 31 MALSON Hannah, Haywood Lodge 66 Drybrook
1874 Apr 5 MALSON Mark #, The Hawthornes 30 Drybrook
1876 Sep 7 MALSON Mark Edward, Morse Lane 6 months Drybrook

# Mark Malson dies aged 30, the year after witnessing sister Maria's marriage(below).
Ref PR and GlosBMD, Mark is son of George & MARY Malson nee Budding, in Abenhall.
