I too was saddened to hear of the death of Winifred Foley.

She did indeed meet her husband Sidney in London and bore three children, two boys and a girl. For a time, they lived in a flat above a rather grumpy old lady who was always complaining. Winifred was afraid to let her children make too much noise, something she always regretted I believe and it was one of the reasons she returned to the Forest of Dean, so her children could enjoy the freedom and space as she had done as a child.

Winifred wrote a further book, entitled Back to the Forest, recalling her time in London and her life with Sidney after they married. This book too, was full of humour and wonderful characters. One book she wrote, quite a small one, was entitled No Pipe Dreams for Father (Scenes from a Forest of Dean Childhood), another gem!

I've enjoyed reading, not just about Winifred but the lovely way she described the characters who lived in The Forest of Dean. Her childhood, reflected my own at times, although I could not always see the funny side of my childhood as she did with hers!

I think she was a wonderful, kind, humorous lady.
