General question - Familytree formats (General)

Thanks for the help, I'm not exactly the most computer friendly person person you are likely to find, that's why I'm asking for help.

I did think about leaving everything in the PAF files, they do copy to CD because I've saved them when having trouble with my PC. Had to download the set up again from "familysearch" so that I could read them when re-installed, but that was no problem. I can't remember if I updated to PAF 5.

I've never been to any family history events, more to think about.
