Elizabeth PROSSER / MARSHALL 1838 Monkswood (General)
I am extremely grateful for you solving this mystery as at least two of my mother's cousins have searched for years (decades before there was the Internet)and so have I for this information. I am also amazed that you have kept on looking since I posted this such a long time ago. The family story is that Eliza Agnes Prosser's father, died in a farming accident (fell onto a pitchfork or something similar). What I can't understand is why she went by her mother's surname if her father's surname was known and if, as is evident in the information I have, that she was in touch with his family. I am wondering whether her mother did or didn't marry him and if he died shortly after the daughter's birth?
I know though that her uncle, David Prosser and his wife Esther brought her up and that they lived in Lower Cwm, Pontypool, so perhaps it was more convenient for her to call herself Prosser while living with that side of the family.
It seems strange to me that the surname of the father seems to have been covered up by the family and I am wondering whether this may have been because Mr Marshall never married her mother or whether there may be more to it than that?!
