Has anybody noticed that Herbert Davies, born 1857 at Dudley Staffs, the son of Jenkin Davies (aka John Jenkin Davies) and his wife (Sarah, whateven her maiden name was) is shown on the 1881 census living as a lodger at 19 Lloyd Street Warrington in the home of Henry Sear, 26, an iron puddlier and his family, his wife Mary A 21 and daughter Sarah aged 3, born Warrington. The birth records on FreeBMD for that daughter Sarah Sear show she was born March qtr 1878 at Warrington (8c/213) In the 1891 cessus she was 13 and was still with her family (spelled on the census as Syres) then in 1901 she was 23 and married to John Thomas Fritchett 23, born Warrington, and the marriage record for them shows they married at Warrington December qtr 1897 (8c/258) and Sarah died at Warrington March qtr 1960 (10f/777) We also found a marriage record for Jenkin Davies (which are the only names we found on his baptism, no John, just plain Jenkin) showing his marriage in 1853 at Penkridge to either a Sarah Martin or Sarah Sear (vol/page 4b/423). We also note that in the census of 1841 and 1851 when Jenkin is with his parents (Jenkin Davies and Sarah nee Keeling) he is always shown just as Jenkin, and in the census of 1861 he is just plain Jenkin with his wife Sarah at Swan Gardens Wolverhampton. Then in 1871 census he has become Finkin, and his son Jenkin is also shown as Finkin. The 1881 census shows him again as Jenkin, as does the 1891 census, so it appears the only place he is referred to as John Jenkin Davies is on his marriage record on FreeBMD, and never on the census before of after his marriage.

The children of Jenkin and Sarah that we have found are Christiana born 1853.Herbert born 1857, Florence born 1859, Jenkin born abt 1863, but no birth record found so far, Alice 1866, Fanny 1874, Sarah Ellen born 1880

we also looked for found a marriage for the son Herbert to a lady named Ann, as shown on the census from 1891, and the marriage record for him to Ann shows his name as Herbert Inkerman Davies, so unsure if this is even the same man as this second name Inkerman had not been used previously nor again after the marriage

we hope somebody is able to help us with some info, and that our contribution can help others, but my wife is related to the Keeling family of Sarah (married Jenkin Davies at Sedgley Staffordsgure 13th february 1820), and we have been researching the Keeling family for more than 50 years, a labour of love and even after all those years, still a work in progress. best wishes from Australia from us 2 Aussies.
