Coleford Company of Rifle Volunteers (Documents Articles)
Coleford Company of Rifle Volunteers
These clippings are from a small date book of my ancestor, John Mathews, who moved from Clydach, Glamorganshire to Lydbrook around 1874. He married Margaret Williams in Lydbrook that year at the Church of the Holy Jesus by Henry T. Hoitt, Vicar. They had three children while in Lydbrook, then immigrated to the United States in 1883. John Mathews was a private with the Rifle Volunteers. The year of this date book is 1882, so I am figuring these articles are from around that time period. John is the "J. Matthews" mentioned in the articles. I have not idea what publication he might have clipped these articles from.
