CRESSWELL in Churcham (General)
by Amycakes, Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 09:24 (6184 days ago)
Hi All, This is my first time posting on this site.
I am trying to find out if St Andrews Church in Churcham, Glos. has records that I can view online, anyone know?
My 2xGreat Grandad Samuel Cresswell was born about 1805.according to census in Churcham, I would like to find his baptism & possibly his parents.
I have found him & wife Rosina & family on 1841 , but cannot find a marriage for him, he remarried in 1851 after Rosina died,[I have her death in 1850.also 2 of their children, in 1842 & 1849.] to Caroline Juggins, I have the cert, which states John Cresswell Labourer, but would really love to find out more & his mothers name.
I have also found via this site his burial date & his son Samuel Jnr. baptism
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be great .
Thank you for your time.
Jackie from East Sussex.

Thank you David for pointing me in the right direction.
I have since found more of Samuel & Caroline Cresswell's children's baptisms.
No luck on Samuels first marriage though, never mind shall keep on digging.
Thanks again.

by Amycakes, Friday, March 07, 2008, 04:27 (6175 days ago) @ Amycakes
Hi List,
Recently joined this site & trying to find above .
According to census he was born approx 1805 in Churcham.
On checking the parish records here , can only find his burial.
Anyone give me any ideas on where next to look, or is there more transcribing to be done on this parish?
Thank you for your time.

Samuel CRESWELL 1802 1865
by Amycakes, Friday, March 07, 2008, 23:01 (6174 days ago) @ slowhands
Thank you slowhands, much appreciated.
I did have the info you gave me , but not the marriage of John Cresswell to Mary , this could be Samuels parents ,as on his marriage cert to Caroline Juggins, John Cresswell was named as father.
Hopefully another brick in the wall.
John was alive in 1851 when Samuel married, so hopefully I can find him too on a census.
Thanks again.
Cheers Amycakes.

I can't find any proof in 1841/51 to support this although there is a death recorded in ;-

Thanks again slowhands, you have been a great help.
I too could not find him on 41/51.Quite possible this death is him.
I think my mind has gone blank as I didnt think to try different spelling .
On doing that I found my Great Grandad Edwin Cresswell's baptism in 1860 , plus his sister Harriet's child Rosena born in the workhouse, again spelling could be wrong as I think she was named after Samuels first wife Rosina, Harriet's mother.
Shall keep on hunting.
Thanks again.
Cheers

Rosina CRESWELL 1871 Westbury Workhouse
by Amycakes, Saturday, March 08, 2008, 05:55 (6174 days ago) @ slowhands
My! Slowhands ,you have been busy, thank you again, I cannot thank you enough.
I had found out about Rosina born to Harriet single mother in the workhouse, but since then have found on this site another child for Harriet called Annie Martha in 1868.
I wasnt aware there was another child.
Harriet went on to marry Frederick John Vallender /Verrinder & had Gertrude Maud.Though it would seem before she married him.
Rosina married George Whitcombe & moved to S.Wales & lived with my Great grandad Edwin in Tirphil,Glam.
It may be that Annie Martha died, shall have to check on that one.
Thank you again , you have been a star!
Cheers Amycakes.
CRESSWELL in Churcham
by grahamdavison , Monday, March 10, 2008, 04:42 (6172 days ago) @ Amycakes
I have recently transcribed the parish register of Bulley and you should note there is a gap in the register from 1784 to 1806. I tried to fill this gap using the BTs, these also had gaps but covered the years 1787-1799 and 1804, 1805. The means that the period 1800-1803 in not covered by either the BTs or parish register which may explain why Samuels baptism is missing.
The Churcham parish registers have
Charles Cressel son of John/Mary bapt 13 May 1810
Charles Cressell son of John/Mary bapt 28 Dec 1806
Anne Crossell dau of John/Mary bapt 20 Jan 1800
Mary Crossell dau of John/Mary of Bulley bapt 16 Jul 1797 (also in Bulley register)
John Crossell son of John/Mary bapt 5 Jan 1794
As Bulley was a Chaplery of Churcham it is common but not certain for baptisms at Bulley to be included in the Churcham register.
