Sutton Farm (General)

Sutton Baynham Farm was previously Sutton Farm. However, for a time it was known as Baynham Farm, Sutton. This was true in 1955 when there was a motorcycle scamble held at the location, organised by the Gloucester and District Motor club.

Wellington Farm or more accurately Wellington's Farm is below Sutton farm and in between Sutton and Littledean. The wooded hillside above Wellington's Farm is called Wellington's Grove, so I suspect your ancestors were more likely to have been at Wellington's Farm, Sutton.

There is also a house called Sutton Lodge, which is an early 20th Century Forestry Commission dwelling. This was named after the Sutton Lodge which is shown on early maps located on the opposite side of the Littledean/Soudley road. It fell into disuse.

Historically, Sutton could have been approached from Pleasant Stile along the old route from Newnham ferry to Coleford. It lay on the cross-roads of this route and the one between Littledean and Soudley.

Hope that's a help.
