Unfortunately the Newland parish register covering the period 1752-1783 has been lost and so the entries on the database were taken from the Parish clerk`s draft register. However there were two other sources of information covering this period, namely the Bishop`s Transcripts and a 19th Century Index to the registers of baptisms, marriages and burials (1670-1799).

One of our transcribers, Gill Webb, has kindly been checking the transcript against these three sources. As a result of her work we have been able to correct the original transcript, and update it with additional information contained in the other two sources (another 100 events). This updated transcript has now been uploaded to the database. Gill is now moving on to look at the period 1783-1812 using the existing parish registers, the parish clerk`s entries, the Bihop`s Transcripts and the Index.

As you can see this has been a major undertaking and we are greatly indebted to Gill for her efforts.
