I have just downloaded a free book "The Forest of Dean" by HG Nicholls written in 1858. It is a history of the Forest and seems quite interesting.

It is on the Project Gutenberg website which aims to provide free ebooks online to anyone and has a very large number of books available.

If anyone is interested the link to this book is www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24505

What a great site... thanks. I'm researching family members from the Forest, Oxordshire and Somerset and there are a few interesting reads on there.

There is also a book on Iron Making in the Olden Times, as instanced in the Ancient Mines, Forges and Furnaces of the Forest of Dean.
