William Baglin married Ellen (Eleanor) Teague on 6 Aug 1832 in Abenhall. Neither parents are shown. In the memorandum section it shows "With consent of friends". Can anyone explain what this means. Jean Herbert

Is Ellen(or) aged about 15/16 and from Christchurch by any chance ?
1841 Coleford Meend
William Baglin abt 1811 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
Eleanor Baglin abt 1816 Gloucestershire, England Dean Forest, Gloucestershire
If so then they would need parental/guardian consent.......under Hardwicks Marriage Act.
however if they went to a church where they were not known, etc etc then ....

Thank you once again Slowhands. Would this signify that the couple eloped or for whatever reason decided to get married without parental consent. Was this marriage legal? Regard Jean Herbert

I'm not a lawyer ----- but technically it would seem a flawed marriage, as her parents were alive.

Reference to the marriage Slowhands found, second Baglin marriage "With consent of friends"
The marriage was of George Bird to Anne Baglin.
Would the Anne Baglin be the same person as the following baptism record? If I am correct, this would make her the cousin of William Baglin who married Eleanor Teague. Williams father was Daniel Baglin born abt 1777 and mother Mary Dobbs. Daniels brother would be Isaac. If this is the case, it would link two lines in my tree.(If I am very lucky) Regards Jean

Perhaps her parents disowned her when they found out she was with child?

Elinor was the eldest sister of James Teague, my great great great grandfather. The Teague family lived at Barn Hill Lodge for about 50 years. James immigrated to America in 1854 and eventually settled in Fayette Co., Iowa. My records indicate that none of William and Susannah's children were married close to the lodge. James married Susan Thomas in Goodrich, England. Thanks for the extra information Jean Herbert and slowhands.

There is a very small link with the Herbert/Phelps family but very far back. The main reason I posted my query is to ask about "Marriage with consent of friends", which Slowhands kindly explained.
