I know from directories that in 1823 Miss Jane Taylor ran The Globe and in 1935 it was Frederick Bathurst Robbins.
I am trying to find the years when both these people began and ended their time there.

The Globe inn, at the junction of the main road and Clanna Lane, had opened by 1805.

The Globe Hotel is a three-storey rendered pub with shuttered windows.
The shutters give it a continental look.

I apologise slowhands.I think I was too hasty in my reply. You have certainly filled the gaps.
My first reaction was that there may have been others in the years not mentioned but I see what you mean.
Many thanks for all your good work.

Jane Mills (nee Taylor) ran The Globe in 1923, not 1823! She was my Great Aunt and is buried in Alvington churchyard (N-E side) towards lych gate.

Hi I am new to this board, but was raised in Alvington. I am trying to find out some detail on the history of the Globe quickly! I know it is now Grade 11 listed, but want to try and find out its past uses. i know its been a pub and was up and running by 1805, but i also know at some time it was run as a hotel and am trying to find out details. My reason for asking (and the hurry) is that there is a planning application in with the forest of dean council to turn it into flats, and build some houses on the land attached to it and i think this would be a crying shame. objections to the application for planning have to be in by 25th August, so you can see why i am in a hurry to find out details.
Thanks Lottiy
