Amelia Morse of Lidbrook (1757/8-1833) (General)

Slowhands and ChrisW did such a great job for me with William Cook(e) that I have to try again. I'm looking for the baptism of William's mother, Amelia Morse (1758/9-1833).

No joy on the online Parish records, but the Ruardean index does list the baptism of Henry Morse (1754-1815), a bargeowner who lived at Lidbrook, and his sister Jane (bap 1840). It's easy pickings to trace Henry back at least three generations, but first I need to attach Amelia. I'm hoping that she is another sister.

The Bigland Monumental Transcripts describe the monument for Henry's father Henry Morse sr (1720-1762) and his mother Elizabeth (1717/8-1792), who are buried at Ruardean with their children William (1756-58) and Ann (1751-58). Since neither of these children appears in the Ruardean baptismal registers, I'm hoping that Amelia is another sibling, and that all of them are listed somewhere else.

Can anyone help?

Thanks again for a wonderful site and such friendly assistance

Thanks very much for that - those are the two I found on your Parish records database. Do you have any thoughts on where I might find Henry and Elizabeth's other children - Ann, William, (hopefully) Amelia - perhaps others? (There's probably an Elizabeth, and a John.) Are there gaps in the Ruardean records? Or might they be found in one of the other Lidbrook parishes?

Warm regards

Greg

Hi Greg

When I found Amelia's marriage I automatically looked for her baptism, to no avail I'm afraid. If you leave the Parish box empty when doing a search, it will throw up all the records for that surname that are on the site e.g.

Year Surname First Name Event Parish/Chapel More detail
1886 MORSE Amelia Baptism Bream More detail
1841 MORSE Amelia Baptism Drybrook More detail
1865 MORSE Amelia Burial Parkend More detail
1841 MORSE Amelia Burial Drybrook More detail
1837 MORSE Amelia Marriage St Briavels More detail
1794 MORSE Amelia Marriage Newland More detail

Someone else may have knowledge of the Ruardean PRs.

Kind Regards
Chris
