Goode family (General)

by Jean Herbert @, Leeds Yorkshire, Tuesday, June 03, 2008, 11:25 (6026 days ago)

After searching the forum index I came across a Tony Cook, who was asking for information on some of the Goode family, one of whom arrived in Yorkshire, after 1901. I noticed that one of the names of the children was the same as one of the family I am researching. Tony has not facilitated a private message contact but if he wishes to explore the data I have just found I would be more than willing to share my findings, if he contacts me.

Hi Jean

I haven't seen the original messages posted on the Goode family but I am interested in any info you may have researched on prudence Goode who I have in my tree as marrying James Phelps in Abenhall in 1812. I wonder if these are the parents of Charlotte Phelps who was married to James Johnson in 1834.
Charlotte was born about 1814 and died in 1903 in Lydbrook aged 88years.

Thanks

Goode family

Hi Maggie
The Phelps family play a bit part in my tree, a Phelps and Herbert marriage was the first to arrive in Yorkshire from the Forest of Dean.
Checking my files I did find a James Phelps born abt 1780 Abinhall married to Prudence Good born 12 Dec 1785. They married on 16 March 1812 in Abinhall. Known children so far are:
John Phelps born abt 1815 East Dean, who maried Elizabeth Jackson on 19 Oct 1840 in Flaxley. They had a multitude of children.
Only known other child so far was William born abt 1827 East Dean no marriage as yet. There could of course be more children, I need to do more research on the family at this time.
Should you wish to follow this up, I will send you what information I have on the family in a pm, as the file is really too long to post on this forum. Regards Jean Herbert

Prudence PHELPS 1785 - 1862 nee GOODE

by johnson1, Saturday, June 07, 2008, 01:01 (6022 days ago) @ slowhands

Thanks for that -not a Charlotte Phelps in sight!
Did James have any brothers -one of which could have been her father?
I am new to genealogy so I would welcome any help with this. I always thought my 'Johnson' family came from the Durham area but was pleasantly suprised to find that they had originated in the Lydbrook area and moved up to the Durham coal mines.
Charlotte Phelps married James Johnson and the Johnsons are well documented in the Forest of Dean parish records.

Thanks
