PERHOSA RUCK (1860) (General)

by darkhole, Sunday, June 08, 2008, 10:56 (6022 days ago)

Does anyone know anything about Perhosa Ruck b.1860 in West Dean? She is sometimes called Penhosa. She is on the 1861 census but does not show at any time after that, so possibly died between 1861 and 1971. Would be greatful of any info.

You could be right with Teresa, the dates do fit. Although I have seen her recorded as Perhosa and Penhosa. I have seen the census records that you mention. Thanks

Just had another look at the census records. In the index for 1861 Perhosa comes up with the correct family, but no mention of Teresa. So not sure now, I still think it is Perhosa or Penhosa.

I think you need to look very closely at the Image , I'm 99% sure it starts with a T and not a P - relying on the Index is relying on the skill of the Transcriber, and with Ancestry at least there are some "howlers" - not that this one of those :-)

I have to agree. The entry is Terhesa do (Ruck).

Looking at the first entry on page 38 it is for Sarah Price. The P of Price has a flamboyant top to it which is repeated on line 5 for William Price.

Line 13 shows Terhesa do (Ruck) which is totally different to the above entries.

Have had another look at the census, and I am inclined to agree with you that what is transposed as a P is infact a T. Teresa looks more likely. Thanks for that.

We have a Symphirosa Rook(e) in our family. Could it be her? She was born in January 1861 and is the sister to a Teresa Rook, Alban Rook, Urban Rook, Charles Rook, Joseph Rook and Maria Rook. Their parents were Paul and Hannah Rook. I can only trace Symphirosa to the 1871 census where the name is spelt: Symphoissa.

Teresa RUCK was my great grandmother, Rhoda RUCK's, cousin. Teresa's sister was Ophelia Susannah RUCK not Crhelia as transcribed from the 1861 census.
Hope this helps.
