Mary Roberts/Williams/Tucker (General)

by glo, Saturday, July 05, 2008, 01:46 (5995 days ago)

Searching for a birth registration and a baptism for my paternal Grandmother Mary ROBERTS born c1869 East Dean Gloucester to parents William and Caroline ROBERTS nee STEPHENS. This couple were living at Stenders East Dean Gloucester at time of their marriage 19 December 1861 (both aged 22yrs). They married in the register office in Westbury on Severn District of Gloucester. Williams father was a George ROBERTS and Carolines Father a Robert STEPHENS. Witnesses were a Nathaniel Smith and a Mary Robinson (who married later)

Mary ROBERTS had many siblings and some appear to have been baptised at Cinderford St John but nothing there for grandma Mary..... a mystery? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Mary Roberts c1868-1871 Gloucester

Hello

Thank you for all the info and details....... some are relevant but not all.

I am still largely concerned with finding paternal Grandma's details (if any) in the Gloucester register to establish a birth date and obtain a birth certificate. There are several Mary Roberts I have discovered on the FreeBMD site but my requests to the Gloucester Register Office have been turned down as non of these fitted the parents names of William and Caroline Roberts nee Stephens so I am still in the dark as to Mary Roberts date of birth and she does not appear to have been baptised which is a bit of a mystery as many of her brothers and sisters appear on the Cinderford register of baptism.

In her adult life Grandma appears to use Mary Regina Roberts/Williams/Tucker...... and named a daughter Mary Regina Tucker but I am not sure where this middle name came from...... another mystery my paternal Grandma has left me to puzzle over.

.... it is possible that Mary was informally adopted , having been baptised to another set of parents.- maybe an aunt/uncle

I have never thought this was the case, as I have my Grandmothers marriage certificates and William Roberts is named as her father on both and she is listed on census forms as the daughter of William Roberts head, and his wife Caroline?...... what do you think.

Mary ROBERTS born East Dean c1869

by glo, Saturday, September 27, 2008, 04:13 (5910 days ago) @ glo

I am still trying to find a date of birth for my paternal Grandmother Mary Roberts as she appears not to have been baptised in Forest of Dean and more importantly in spite of years of searching I have not found a birth registration for a Mary Roberts with parents William and Caroline Roberts nee Stephens. Both parents were also born in East Dean.

I can accept Mary might not have been baptised (although some of her siblings were). What I can't get my head around is the fact that Grandma Mary Roberts appears not to have been registered at birth! I just must be missing something here and desperately need any help anyone can give PLEASE.... just to save my sanity.
