Which Isaac MORGAN of Newland (General)

by martinphelps, Tuesday, July 08, 2008, 11:00 (5991 days ago)

I am looking for my ancestor Isaac Morgan of Newland born in around 1780. Unfortunately there are 2 of them. One is the son of James Morgan & Jane bapt Newland/Bream in sept 1778. The other is the son of George Morgan & Mary bapt Newland/Bream in Oct 1777.

I know that my ancestor Jane Morgan bapt Lydney 1816 was dau of Isaac Morgan, collier & Mary. I think this was Isaac & Mary Jones who marr. Lydney in 1805, where Isaac is said to be "of Newland". I also think my Isaac & Mary are the ones buried in Parkend in 1841 & 1854. Mary was with several of her children including Jane & my 1 month old gggrandmother Alice at Pillowell in the 1841 census. Mary was with her son Richard in Yorkley in the 1851 census.

Can anyone suggest how to identify which Isaac is mine ?

The following is a possibility:

1. WILLIAM MORGAN (christened on the 26th June 1704 in Bream Newland) married ELIZABETH ULY (b 23 November 1707 Newland). Had issue:
1.1. JAMES MORGAN baptised April 3rd 1743 (PFC 227 in 1/3 fiche 1, Newland); m JANE KEAR 3rd of November 1765 Newland. Had issue (amongst others):
1.1.1. ISAAC MORGAN (b 20th September 1778; buried on 4th April 1841 at Parkend, por Pillowell); married MARY JONES(1) on 13th July 1805 Lydney, brother of ISAAC MORGAN; had issue according to birth data from this web site:
1.1.1.1. ANN MORGAN bapt May 4th 1806 Lydney;
1.1.1.2. MARGARET MORGAN bapt Jan 7th 1808;
1.1.1.3. ENOCH MORGAN bapt October 16th 1814 por Forest of Dean; Lydney
1.1.1.4. JOHN MORGAN bapt October 16th 1814 por Forest of Dean; Lydney
1.1.1.5. JANE MORGAN bapt September 1st 1816 por Forest of Dean; Lydney;
1.1.1.6. MARY MORGAN bapt November 22 1818 por Forest of Dean; Lydney;
1.1.1.7. HENRY MORGAN bapt November 30th 1823 por Forest of Dean; Lydney;
1.1.1.8. THOMAS MORGAN bapt July 1st 1827 (The Forest, coal miner).

2. In the 1841 census for Pillowell, Dean Forest, Park End walk we have:

MARY MORGAN(1) 60 (bapt about 1781)
JANE MORGAN 25 b about 1816
RICHARD MORGAN 26 b about 1815
MARY MORGAN(2) 20 b about 1821
HENRY MORGAN 18 b about 1823
THOMAS MORGAN 14 b about 1827
ALICE MORGAN months

and this is clearly MARY MORGAN(1) the widow of ISAAC MORGAN. Next door is living:

WILLIAM JONES 50 collier (hence born about 1791; marriage before 1821)
MARY JONES(3) 45
JAMES JONES 20
ELIZA JONES 8

WILLIAM JONES married MARY JONES(3) on 31st July 1804. WILLIAM JONES (bapt 14th sept 1777 Bream) and MARY JONES(1) (bapt 14th sept 1780 Bream) both resident in Bream are siblings whose parents are JAMES and BEATA JONES.

This may represent further clues to research.

Chris thanks for the new evidence it is more substantial than my guess based on common firstnames between James & Isaacs children.

I am slightly puzzled though. The transcript of William Jones marriage on this site lists 5 witnesses but not Richard Morgan. How many witnesses are there on the original ?

Sorry - clearly got my data mixed up and so have corrected my previous post. Rest assured I am still working on this tricky problem.
