Marriage of Samuel SINDRY b. 19 Jun 1816 (General)

by Ann @, Cheltenham, Glos, Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 05:52 (5977 days ago)

Samuel SINDRY b.19 Jun 1816 at Linton or Weston under Penyard was the third son of Guy SINDRE b. 4 Jul 1784 and Susannah JAMES b. 12 April 1789.

Samuel married Mary Ann, born c.1822. I have been unable to find any details for this event, I am particularly interested to discover Mary Ann's maiden name. Please could anyone help me out?

Regards, Ann Sindrey.

by Ann @, Cheltenham, Glos, Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 11:33 (5977 days ago) @ slowhands

Thank you so much for the information, Slowhands.

Of course it is the family of Samuel's older brother George and his wife, Elizabeth Wilkes, who have quite a number of connections with the Brains/Marfells.

Regards, Ann.

Thank You Slowhands
Apart from the mentioned links to Marfell's & Brains from the marriage between Samuel's brother George and Elizabeth Wilkes, which has already been mentioned by Ann, the connections are almost limitless, but I will confine myself to the most interesting; (1) Mary Ann Brain who married Samuel Cinderey had a brother Cornelius Brain who married Anne Tommey Brain -now see my entry under the posting Sir Francis Brain.
(2) Samuel's brother Henry married Mary Ann Mountjoy 1.1.1837 and had 7 children. Mary Ann Mountjoy then married John Thomas (no comments please) in 1853, they had 2 Children including Elizabeth Sophia Mountjoy Thomas in 1855 - more later !! Mary Ann Mountjoy then married William Briscoe born 1825 Ireland on 21 October 1861. William Briscoe had previously been married to Sophia Mountjoy, sister of Mary Ann, with whom he had 8 children. Now comes the interesting part, so I hope you have been paying attention. Previously mentioned Elizabeth Sophia Mountjoy Thomas born 1855, had 9 children illegitimately, including Elizabeth Sophia 1880 who married Frederick Meek and
Owen Robinson born 4.12.1889. I have Owen's birth & marriage certificate, Name on Birth Certificate Owen Robinson Thomas. Name on Marriage Certificate, Owen Robinson Briscoe. All of the illegitimate children of Elizabeth Sophia Mountjoy Thomas changed their surname to Briscoe - so work it out !! William Briscoe born 1825 Ireland, son of William Briscoe born Kilkenny, Ireland 1795 & Johanna Aylward born Newmarket, Ireland 1803 must have been a game lad, I reckon he fathered at least 17 children.
Owen Robinson Briscoe married my great aunt Bernice Lily Marfell.
(3) Samuel's brother William married Esther Meek, daughter of George Meek & Sarah Brain, they had 5 children incl Sarah Anne 1857 who married Richard Meek.... the connections here roll on and on.

Mary Ann MOUNTJOY c.1813

by Ann @, Cheltenham, Glos, Saturday, July 26, 2008, 07:21 (5974 days ago) @ jimashton

Hi there, Jim,

Am I confused or what? The more I search the worse it gets!

I thought Mary Ann and Henry (SINDREY, CINDRY,ANDRY) had ten children, two of which died. There was also a William b.2 Mar 1860 to Jane, which I took to be their daughter Jane b.31 Dec 1837. This child only lived for six months. In the 1861 census, where the name is ANDRY, Mary Ann was still at home and there were still three children living at home.

Now Mary Ann CINDRY of Woodside, where the family had always lived, was buried 15 Mar 1863. I'm not sure I see how she could have been so busy getting married again. If she remarried why isn't she buried using her new husbands name? I see that the Mary Ann Mountjoy who married John Thomas was a spinster. Is there perhaps another Mary Ann Mountjoy?

I don't have access to census documents now, so I am unable to have a search, to try to sort this out for myself.

Regards Ann.

Mary Ann MOUNTJOY c.1813

by jimashton @, Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 06:19 (5970 days ago) @ Ann

Thanks Ann

I need to go back to the drawing board to check this out, I see now that Mary Ann Mountjoy is shown as Spinster when marrying John Thomas. I note that her father was William - a coincidence ? When I go through it now, it appears to be wrong, but the recording of data piece by piece does not always highlight errors.

Mary Ann MOUNTJOY c.1813

by jimashton @, Tuesday, August 05, 2008, 06:26 (5964 days ago) @ Ann

Hi Again Ann

There has been another posting concerning Mountjoys and following the threads and the links, there was indeed another Mary Ann Mountjoy baptised 12 November 1820 to a James Mountjoy & Maria. The dates don't sit very well with the census dara for Henry Cinderey & Mary Ann, but the Briscoe connections are too strong with the "other" Mary Ann Mountjoy.

Perhaps more will be revealed by our "guru" Slowhands. The question has already been asked about a connection between James & William Mountjoy.

James MOUNTJOY & Maria BLAKE

by jimashton @, Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 05:20 (5789 days ago) @ Skamp

Hi Skamp.

I have James Mountjoy & Maria Blake in my family tree as they are connected to me, but not related. They earn their place in my Family Tree as their daughter Mary Ann Mountjoy 1920, married Henry Cinderey 1812, son of Guy Cinderey and Susannah James who had 8 children. Apart from their son Henry, there was a Samuel Cinderey 1816 who married my 3rd cousin 4 times removed Mary Ann Brain, Henry's brother William Cinderey 1825 married my 3rd cousin 5 times removed Esther Meek.

Whilst I plot siblings and parents of spouses, I sometimes take it further, but in some instances, rather than go too far entering detail in my Family Tree, I put detail that I have obtained into the notes field of the person concerned, as it is often the case that connected people become related if more information is subsequently unearthed. Such is the case for James Mountjoy & Maria Blake, where my notes field shows : Details of all 10 children see research.
My research field then shows :
James MOUNTJOY & Maria BLAKE had 10 children
Also they used the surname LANDERS or LANDER. Reason unclear or why to me.
1.Hannah MOUNTJOY 23 Aug 1801 Newland, Gloucestershire, Eng
2.William Mountjoy LANDERS 24 Jul 1803 Clearwell, Gloucestershire, England-08 Jan 1848 Bream, Gloucestershire, England md.15 Oct 1832 Newland, Gloucestershire, England Elizabeth ELSMORE daughter of Joseph ELSMORE & Elizabeth ASTON
and they had 5 known children
3.Esther Mountjoy LANDERS 27 Feb 1805 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
md.03 Oct 1836 Newland, Gloucestershire, England Thomas STIDDER
4.Thomas MOUNTJOY 08 Nov 1807 Newland, Gloucestershire, England-10 Aug 1808 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
5.Thomas MOUNTJOY 10 Sep 1809 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
6.James MOUNTJOY 18 Aug 1811 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
7.John MOUNTJOY 09 May 1813 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
8.Richd MOUNTJOY 09 Apr 1815 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
9.George MOUNTJOY 15 Jun 1817 Newland, Gloucestershire, England
10.Mary Anne MOUNTJOY 12 Nov 1820 Newland, Gloucestershire, England

Unfortunately, I don't record the source of such information.

My wife is descended from Thomas Mountjoy, born 1809, son of James Mountjoy and Maria Blake, but I cannot trace the Mountjoys (Landers) any further back. Any Ideas?

A LANDER in the area around 1800 turns out to be the GP /Surgeon.

So did the MOUNTJOYs name their earlier Children after the doctor - did he deliver the children or save their lives ??

Mary Ann MOUNTJOY c.1813

by Carolbeagle, Thursday, January 21, 2016, 18:43 (3239 days ago) @ Ann

I have the death certificate for mary Ann mountjoy cinderey from 1863 which shows she was still married to Henry when she died, he witnessed her death, so other marriages and children must be the other mary Ann mountjoy. I also have death certificates for Henry and wedding certificates for several of their children if you contact me I can email you copies.
I am a little confused by information on here which gives contradictory parents for her - I have Joseph mountjoy and rosannah rafene as her parents - any help you can provide on this would be welcome!
I am descended from her daughter emma.
