Richard GOODE of Ruardean (General)

by arriano @, Wednesday, August 06, 2008, 14:00 (5964 days ago)

Hi
I'm trying to track down the parents of Richard Goode, born about 1818 in Ruardean. I know he married Amelia Meek in 1843. But I've been unable to track down a baptismal record for him. Any help appreciated.

Hi arriano

I'm afraid I cannot help you regarding Richard's parents, but something you may already know, that will help regarding census searches is that in 1867 he remarried to Alice Baker Smith. His first wife Amelia nee Meek was buried in Ruardean 10 May 1863.

My interest is that his granddaughter Gertrude Helen Reed, daughter of George Reed and Amelia Goode married William Ernest Marfell.

Jim

Thanks for the info. I don't think I had Alice's full name.

I am descended from Gertrude's sister Eva Annie Reed. She was my great-grandmother. I'd very much like to exchange more info with you.

Thanks for this. I think Hannets is another spelling for the surname Annetts, opening up other possibilities.

Richard GOODE 1817

by PATTYC, Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 09:59 (4879 days ago) @ arriano

Hi am currently stuck or confused with a relative of mine. His name was Richard Goode he was born in 1817, and married Amelia Meek, they had lots of children including my great great great grandmother Amelia goode born 1852-1930

What i am stuck on is Richards parents. I am registered on Ancestry.com and it keeps coming up with James Hannets...this is the part i am stuck with, as i assumed that Richard would of taken his dads last name..if in actual fact this was his dad, his surame was definalty goode so am slightly confused.
Have searhced the gloustershire archives and cant even find richards birth registered?
Could it be possible he was born Richard Hannets and later changed his name? If so i guess he must of chanegd it be deedpoll...is it possible to get records of deedpoll changes?

Any info would be great.
Would also be great to get in contact with relatives that are also desendents from amelia goode and George reed.

Kind regards
cheryl

Have you tried getting copies of marriage or death certificates you may get info on there. Or a copy of baptism record. It may be his parents were not married and he has his mothers name.

I was sorting through the Annetts in Ruardean in my tree and came across this thread about James (H)annetts (collier) father of Richard Goode/Hannetts b. 1817 the illegitamate son of Annie Goode

A James Annetts (bachelor) married Elizabeth Richards (spinster) both of St Briavels hundred 16 Dec 1798 and had 5 children baptised at Ruardean (George 1799, Amelia 1801, Mary 1803, George 1805 and Jane 1807)

Elizabeth Annotts 'wife of James' is buried in Ruardean on 1 Nov 1808, 21 months after the last child was baptised.

Thus by 1817 James has been widowed for almost a decade and may well have had further children with Annie Goode
I'm not sure why he chose not to marry Annie Goode as presumably he would have been free to do so as a widower.

James himself is most probably the James Annetts baptised 28 Jan 1776 (son of James and Sussanah) in Ruardean making him about 41 years old when Richard Goode was born and 47 when he died in 1823.

Are you sure the James Hannets who was the father of Richard Goode isn't the James Hannets baptized 3 Nov. 1754 at Ruardean?

Richard GOODE 1817

by djmfhr111 @, Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 16:45 (4802 days ago) @ arriano

Yes I see what you mean, I had missed him as the soundex didn't pick him up under Annetts
That would make James Hannets b. 1754 63 years old when Richard Goode was born which would be possible
Difficult to tell which one is the right James!
