Hi Everyone
This is a truly fantastic website and has given my family tree an enormous boost. My husband's family come from Yorkshire and despite googling I have not found anything similar to help with that side of our research.
Does anyone know of a website comparable to this one for Yorkshire?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
Diane

Short answer is no.
There may be some localised "special interest groups" who have like us focussed on a specific village or group of villages - the Ridings perhaps , or, surname. www.grindell.org ( long since broken) focussed on Grindle families ( I contributed from the FoD)
Online Parish Clerks is an idea that has strong roots in Dorset and Cornwall, and has spread to one or two other areas. an example :-
http://www.kirkheaton-ops.co.uk/ Huddersfield /Pontefract (ish)
or you might try
http://www.yorkshireroots.org.uk/ etc

Hi,
as Slowhands says no definative site.Depending on the area you require I may be able to help.Around Driffield there is a site.WWW.driffield .co.uk.They have a genealogy section.
I regularly go to Northallerton to records office there, going again sept.
Upper dales have there own website but do not have it to hand. Will post it later.
Which area are you looking at,my family is pretty wide spread in Yorkshire soI travel around.

Hi
Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions. I am researching the Drake and Hartley families that lived in Halifax. My husband's 3 x Gt Grandfather is John or Jonathan Hartley b 1822 in Heckmondwike. John married Martha Ann Drake in 1849 and they came to NZ in 1858.
We are trying to find the next generation back (and beyond if possible) but have not had a great deal of luck. I have ordered John and Martha Ann's wedding certificate so I am waiting to see if that will help at all.
I live in NZ so you will have to forgive my lack of knowledge of Yorkshire geography.
Thank you once again for all your help.
Cheers
Diane

Have you tried Rootschat which is a forum like this section of the FOD site. It has a dedicated Yorkshire section divided up into the 3 Ridings. You would need the West Riding section.
There are some very knowledgeable and frindly people on there who could direct you to other West Riding resources and maybe if you're lucky, do lookups for you.
