Day House Farm Tidenham

by woolcomber65, Thursday, August 28, 2008, 01:10 (6003 days ago)

Researching through the Parish Registers it appears that quite a few members of my family died at an elderly age at Day House Farm in Tidenham. Does anyone have any knowledge of this property. I am interested to know whether the building was still being used as a working farm, or the use of the property been changed i.e communal home.

Any info is greatly appreciated

My family owned Day House Farm in the last century. Grandfather John Roberts and Grandmother Sarah Price. They brought their family up there. The farm manager was a Mr. Cramp, his widow was granted tenancy of Sugar Loaf Cottage. In the 1930's-1940's Day House farm was run by three Roberts daughters, one of whom, Jessie, married James Williams. It was my understanding that the farm was turned over to a private Christian trust; however, in later years James Williams farmed Day House and was in place when I last visited the Tidenham area in the 1990's.
Hope this information is of some help to you. I am interested in any earlier history of Day House.

Thanks essjayem

The information about Day House Farm is interesting as I first came across the name when I was researching for information on the descendents of Michael & Elizabeth ROBERTS (my g-grandparents). From my research it would appear that Michael, who was born at Woolaston in 1834 and died in March 1901, spent the whole of his working life as an ag.lab. Whether, or not, he spent part of his time working at Day House Farm or was in any way related to your grandparents John Roberts & Sarah Price I don't know. Would be interested to know.

Thanks again for the info

Terry
