SOUTHERN family Forest of Dean (General)
by Victor Southern , Kent, Saturday, March 05, 2005, 18:55 (7203 days ago)
I am descended from a Bertha Jenkins born about 1870, daughter of Enos Jenkins, a collier, born East Dean. She married a Tom or Thomas Southern, a collier but later a railway servant, who was born in English Bicknor about 1876. It is the ancestors of Tom that I am trying to verify but I welcome any information about Bertha's family - she had brothers Enos and Isaac and a sister Rhoda. There was also an 11 year old Arthur Jenkins on the 1901 census who was a visitor to the same FoD household [the Birts] as Bertha and her husband Tom Southern. Can one establish a relationship between Bertha and Arthur?

I have been contacted by a friend called Carol Dawson from Yorkshire who asked me to some research on her distant relative Enos Jenkins born around 1837 and have made this link. Carol has told me that Enos and his wife Eliza(beth) moved to Yorkshire where he worked in the local coal mines and later died and was buried somewhere up t'north. She will be very pleased by this link

I cannot find a burial for Mary Anne, so wonder why she's not at home with Enos on the 1871 Census in Slowhands' earlier post ?.
GlosBMD suggests this was their only child.
But sadly, perhaps linked to the birth;

Simiarly, searching GlosBMD for births to Jenkins/Wait(e) gives possibly too many hits for one family, need to tie in with Census' etc.

Continued from previous post;
After 1881 I'm unable to find Enos and Eliza in later Census', presumably because they're now in Yorkshire as suggested by your post, tuffers ?.
I can easily find their son's Enos and Isaac in 1891, both married miners and still in Ruspidge. By 1901 young Enos is still in Ruspidge, but Isaac & family are in Featherstone, and in 1911 are in nearby Hemsworth, both Yorkshire mining towns.
However no sign of their father Enos in Yorkshire or anywhere else.
??
Could this be him, still in Ruspidge ? Enos is quite a popular name in the area, but this seems a reasonable fit ?

Looks like this Mary Ann Jenkins (c1860) was the one who married the Edmund Tingle in one of your previous posts.
