Could anyone connect Gwen Pritchard with the Rook(e) family?

by rookancestrybest @, United Kingdom, Tuesday, September 02, 2008, 12:09 (5997 days ago)

I have a photograph which has the photographer's date stamp on the back stating that the photograph was taken on Nov 7th 1911. It is difficult to make out the photographer's name but it could be Jack and the surname starts with Le... -The words "more can be obtained" are also part of the photographer's stamp. The photograph is of Gwen Pritchard who is a young woman but it is difficult to assess her age due to the Edwardian clothes she is wearing but she is at least 20 and probably no more than 40 years old. She is sitting resting one arm on a mock stone pillar and on top of the pillar is her dog which looks like some form of small rough haired terrier. She looks Welsh and very much like my mother used to look.
I am presuming that it was my grandmother who wrote on the back of the photograph the words:
"Cousin Gwen Pritchard, Coleford, Gloucestershire."
Can anyone link Gwen Pritchard to my grandmother who was Agnes Beatson (Born in 1896) the grand daughter of Thomas and Eliza Agnes Rook(e) who moved from Coleford to Sheffield in the 1870s and whose daughter Agnes (born in Coleford in 1869) was her mother.
Gwen Pritchard is highly likely to be either my grandmother's second cousin (rather than a first cousin) or the first or second cousin of one of her grandparents. Other family names besides Rook(e) are Morgan, Prosser and Steade.
I have looked on the Internet for Gwen Pritchards but though there are two or three possibilities I'm not sure whether Pritchard was her married name or her maiden name.
Please help me to solve this mystery!

Gwen Pritchard must also be related to Zita Pritchard...

Zita Pritchard was the niece of Elizabeth A Rook - always affectionately known as Auntie Lizzie in the family. She was married twice and had no children of her own, (Auntie Lizzie that is!). She is listed as staying with Auntie Lizzie and her first husband when aged 7 years in the 1881 Census living in Swansea but her place of birth is recorded as Coleford. Also with Auntie Lizzie at that time was Teresa Rook who was about 17 years old and listed as Auntie Lizzie's cousin. Teresa Rook was Paul Rook's daughter. Auntie Lizzie was Joseph Rook's (brother of Paul) daughter and she had two sisters: Mary and Jane born 1844 and 1848 resp. as well as a brother called Thomas Joseph Rook. If Zita is listed as Elizabeth's niece she is therefore likely to be either Mary or Jane's daughter and one of them is likely to have married a Mr. Pritchard. I can't find any record of either Mary or Jane beyond their birth records. They are likely either to have married in the RC Church at Monmouth or in a Methodist church as the family has both RC and Methodist roots.
Can anyone link Zita with Gwen and confirm whether or not either Mary or Jane (or indeed someone else) as Zita's mother? Thanks.

Gwen Pritchard must also be related to Zita Pritchard...

Could this be her burial? The age fits & possible Catholic connection.

Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it as I am 99.9999% certain that you have the Zita who is related to me, particularly as she was living at Lane End which is where the rest of the family lived in Coleford. Everything on it seems to add up especially the religion. I also now know that she was not married.
Best Wishes.

Thanks this is how I found the Pritchard connection with the Rook connection I as know for definite that Autie Lizzie married a Mr. Devereaux (or Divereaux as it is spelt in the 1881 census) - he was her first husband. I saw the same entry on the Family Search Website but I am trying to see which and whether one of Auntie Lizzie's sisters is Zita's mother .
Best Wishes

I should have read this before I responded to your other posting! I am getting nearer and now need to track Mary as I know that Zita's mother couldn't possibly have been Jane. My direct line is through Thomas Rook the blacksmith.
Thanks again and best wishes.

Thanks for info on Albert Thomas that's saved me some searching. I also know now why I couldn't find the family in 1841 census! If it is of any help James Pritchard was born Hewelsfield 1801 and Married Elizabeth Edwards born 1802 in St Briavels. They married Mitcheldean 6/2/1826. Have a lots more on James and his family but only parents and siblings of Elizabeth
