Does anyone know Arthur Edward Meek?
When I was at Kew (Records Office) last week, waiting for my husband to put his film away, a gentleman asked me to help him read a word on his computer screen. I obliged, but amazingly the name on the screen was Arthur Edward Meek. The gentleman is a medal collector and was using the records to find out about all the medals in his collection. He allowed me to copy from his screen:-
"Arthur Edward Meek
Service number 16284
Royal Field Artilary
aged 23
d. 10 9 1917
Charles & Lydia Meek
bd. Lijssenthoek
XVIII E9" ('Newent' was also there somewhere)
I asked him if he would be prepared to sell the medal back to the family. The answer was 'No, it's part of my collection.'
So I post this in case there are cousins out there who might find this useful. What a coincidence that of all the people in Kew on that day he should ask me to help him read his screen, and it happened to be that medal of all the ones on his list - he was there all day!!
