HARRIS family of Pope Hill (General)

by jweeks13, Friday, September 19, 2008, 05:58 (5920 days ago)

I am currently trying to trace my grandfather and relatives who came for POPE HILL, FOREST OF DEAN, they were called HARRIS.
My grandfather was called SIDNEY HARRIS (dob approx 1901)and he married GERTRUDE HILL( dob approx 1894/95) in Bristol in 1922, he joined the army on the 15th June in 1920. He had sister called ROSE who married a widower with two children called HARRY, the two children were called MARJORIE and RONNIE. I believe she was the 1st or 2nd women to join the police in London.
In addition there were some relative called ELSIE and LAV, Elsie husband was called FRANK.

If you are able to help I would much appreciate it.

Joyce, I live on Popes Hill in a property previously owned by your relations. I have copy of the will of James Harris, the original mortgage deed when he took out a mortgage on the property and info relating to John Harris and Albert Harris. you are more than welcome to contact me to go through this information

regards

Hi,
I am going down to Forest of Dean this weekend to meet up with a lady who has contacted me with info re: my ancestors, the Harris's. She has Wills and Title Deeds.
If anyone has any tips for me as I am a complete novice, as to the most usual way to use my time, to confirm up any information I have or to add to it, I would be grateful, as I have never visited before.
Also a bit of a wild shot, my Grandfather Sidney Harris (Sydney on 1901 census)had a nephew Stanley who had a pub in the Forest poss Coleford, Stan was a prisoner of war for 5 yrs in Japan and got the pub when he came back, I would love to find out more if anybody as any ideas, I have no idea what it was called.
Many Thanks
