Benjamin James MATTHEWS b abt 1842 East Dean (General)

I have Benjamin, son of James Matthews and Elizabeth Marfell marrying Tryphena Wilce dau of Richard and Ann? in 1862. The family appear together in 1871 census, Benjamin is "missing" from 1881, the whole family "missing" in 1891 but they reappear in 1901 (indexed BJ and Mrs T Matthews).

Can anyone help replace the "missing"s please, and as both Benjamin and Tryphena are related to me in my tree, winter's coming and my leaves are falling!
