Henry NIBLETT married to Bertha KEARSEY 1876 (General)

by Philippa, Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 08:26 (5897 days ago)

I have found the marriage of Henry and Bertha in Newland on the 24th June 1876 but can not find a birth record of Henry. The marriage record states his father as Samuel Niblett and I believe his home is Newland.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Samuel NIBLETT Lane End m Harriet ROBERTS (nee HALE)

by PhilipN @, Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 22:13 (5896 days ago) @ slowhands

Samuel Niblett was baptised 11/5/1823 at Hewelsfield (born Harthill) to Thomas and Ann (Nancy) Niblett. The record is faint and I believe FoD has it as unreadable - but it is one of those that once you know what you are looking for it is legible. Thomas was farming at Harthill and Ann/Nancy's parents Samuel and Joanna Edwards were living at Harthill Court.
Samuel's second wife was Ann Little (nee Evans)(28/10/1871 at Parkend).
I have details of Samuel's siblings and also Henry and will post them or send them if there is interest.

Thanks Phil

It would be interesting if poss, although these people are not in my direct line they are still in my tree and I really like to fill in as many gaps as I can. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Frowen nee Kearsey.

It is intersting that cousins of Bertha seem to be living the high life in Bristol whilst her family are still colliers etc in the Forest!

Steady on :-), many a Forester has been a successful business person outside of the Forest - Frank Hale and his Cake business in Clevedon for example !!!

The Hales business, acquired by Fitch Lovell in the middle of the Second World War, was started in Clevedon in 1926 by Frank Hale who, it is said, baked his first cakes (Hales Farmhouse Cake) in the kitchen of his home. He began production under the name Farmhouse in Old Clevedon, Somerset. By 1932 the business had grown enough to be formed into a limited company and Hale's Home Bakery (Cleveland) Ltd was formed. By the mid-1930s the business was employing 200 and sales depots had been opened in Swindon and Southampton. In 1938 the business was sufficiently profitable to justify the purchase of a Swiss roll production line, only the second in the country, the first had been producing prodigious quantities of Swiss roll at Lyons' Cadby Hall factory many years earlier. In the 1940s shortly before he died, Frank Hale sold a majority interest in his business to the food wholesaling group Fitch & Son.

I've got a Hale (by marriage) in my tree - wonder if it is the same family (she married a Kearsey as well).

In my posting I meant in comparison, and how families go differant ways. With the Kearsey family at that time you have those who seem to work hard doing more traditional Forest occupations and then one branch are living in splendour (with the children in adult life being described as 'living on own means') in what is now a Grade 1 listed building in Bristol. The family were Flour Factors and this must of started from an earlier generation who appear to have been successful farmers and merchants.

I have always found this particular aspect interesting, how for example, within a couple of generations one side of a family can go from rags to riches whilst another side can go from riches to rags.

Hello Philippa,

I'm related to the KEARSEY family, and I do have quite a lot of information about them, if you are interested.

Cheers,

Don Cameron.
