Coxes of Viney Hill and Yorkley Slade (General)
by banalban, Monday, November 03, 2008, 13:49 (5864 days ago)
I would like to find out more about the life of my grandfather and his family who lived in Yorkley around 1892, the year he was born. My grandfather's name was Charles Maynard Cox and his parents were Albert Edward Cox and Elizabeth Partridge Cox. They are buried at Viney Hill. My grandfather immigrated to America around 1923 and settled in Birmingham, Alabama, where I was born.
My mother and I were told by my grandfather that my g-grandfather was a minister and a Methodist. Anyone have suggestions where I can search to find whether Albert Edward Cox was indeed a minister or connected to the Methodist church in some way. I would also like to find further information on his wife Elizabeth Partridge. Anyone familiar with Partridges' in Gloucestershire. Thank you.

Yorkley Slade Chapel - Brief history and records
by slowhands , proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Monday, November 03, 2008, 20:39 (5863 days ago) @ banalban
In the later 19th century Bible Christians opened chapels in five more places within the Forest. At Yorkley Slade, where the cause was revived by Henry Jones in 1858, a chapel was built in 1862. (fn. 90) It became part of the Methodist Church in 1932 and a large schoolroom was added to it in 1955. (fn. 91) It closed in 1992.

hello Nancy. My great grandmother was known as 'Granny Lambert'. It may be her that was mentioned to you as a child. The family did come from the Forest of Dean.
This is in reference to your search for Charles Maynard Cox b 1892. If you would like to contact me, I'd be pleased to know the connection. kind regards Mary

Hello, I apologize, I can't see that I answered your post and surely would have if I had been aware of it. I took a break from research for a couple of years, but have returned! We are related and would love to hear from you. I have done additional research on the family names, Lambert, Cox and Partridge. Please contact me!
