Samuel RASBATCH/RUSBACH 1830 m Amey NASH 1833 (General)

by reporter, Thursday, November 06, 2008, 07:05 (5873 days ago)

I have Amey's history up to her marriage to Samuel in 1855 and their son Thomas b 1857. Tried many spelling permutations for surname, but have drawn a blank. Trying to find descendants, as Amey was a 1st cousin. Several Nashes moved to the USA, but can't find them there. Anyone have knowledge, please? Perhaps Slowhand's legendary "nose" for transcription variations could be used??
Thanks
Bob Jenkins

An item was posted to the Rootsweb Gloucester List in 2000 by a descendant in New Zealand.
Details here:

It would appear that Samuel and Amey emigrated to New Zealand in 1863.

Good luck
Mike

Thanks Michael, and Slowhands, - how do you do it?

Put my thinking cap on and did a Google search - found quite a lot of Rusbatches, including mine, in Oamaru, New Zealand, plus a few contacts. The Nashes were quite adventurous movers - Canada, USA, New Zealand and even Yorkshire.

Nashes of the Forest of Dean

Amey Nash was the sister of my gg-grandfather Jeremiah Nash, whose wife and children immigrated to the US and Canada. We have no information on Amey and her descendents and would love to learn more!

The father of Amey and Jeremiah, William Nash (1806-1850) was a freeminer who managed Old Sling Pit Iron Mine and passed away when Jeremiah was 17 and Jeremiah was 6. Their mother Sarah Jenkins and the younger children lived afterward as paupers. Seventy years later, Jeremiah's son, Thomas Nash, my great grandfather, left his family in the US in 1922 in a misguided attempt to reclaim Old Sling Pit Iron Mine for the family. You can find details on some of the descendents of William Nash and Sarah Jenkins (the "Jenkins Nashes") at http://www.nashfamilyhistory.com/nashnewpage.htm .

William Nash was the son of John Nash (c1776-1855) and Sarah Jones (before 1780-before 1841). We're not 100% certain of the parents of John and his brothers, but by process of eliminating the unlikely candidates, we believe that they could be Richard Nash (c1746-???) and Mary Harrison (c1749-???).

We have a Yahoo group for the descendents of the Nashes of the Forest of Dean at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nash_fod/ . For the last two years, we have been reuniting our extended Nash family, now living in England, Wales, Scotland, Canada, the US, and Australia, and are attempting to preserve oral history and compile a master family tree. Thanks Matt, am there already! Just firming up some details and discrepancies before I upload my side of things - Sarah Jenkins of the "Jenkins Nash" line being my 2nd gt grandaunt, her brother Henry 1803 was my 2nd gt grandfather.

"The Nashes were quite adventurous movers - Canada, USA, New Zealand and even Yorkshire"

They must have been a very brave and adventureous family to move to depths of far flung Yorkshire. Very wild and desolate place, although natives quite friendly once you get to know them, especially if you get your wallet out and buy us a pint o'best ale. Regards, Jean Herbert - Yorkshire person

I have just found that Amey Nash(Rusbatch) and my greatgrandmother were sisters. Mary Nash married John Worgan and came out to NZ in 1879 with their four children. Amey came out in 1863 and settled in Oamarua with her three children and husband. Mary died in 1881 and Amey looked after Marys youngest child Ruth Worgan.
