William Braine - Franklyn Expedition (General)

Just wondered if anyone out there has ever made a connection between the Brains of the Forest of Dean and William Braine 1814c - 1846 who perished on the 1845 Franklyn Expedition to find the North West Passage. A fascinating story surrounds this expedition but I have, so far, been unable to find out much about William other than he enlisted in Yeovil, Somerset at Christmas in 1833 as a Private, 3rd class. As it's very much a FOD surname I'm sure there must be a link somehow.

Private William Braine (b. March, 1815, Oakhill, Somerset, England; d. April 3, 1846), Royal Marines, Western Division, Woolrich, HMS ''Erebus''.

the grave of Private William Braine was largely intact.[29] When he was exhumed, it was apparent that he was delayed in being interred. Even though severely emaciated, his coffin was too narrow, so his arms were folded in the back to fit his shoulders into the coffin. Braine also had a broken tooth,[30] and an old severe concussion on the forehead.[30] A large copper hole punched plaque adorned his coffin lid.[32]

This is an excerpt from and article about the Franklin Expedition, by Owen Beattie.
"Finally, I thought that having a living descendant of one of the Arctica explorers engage in a search for answers was very appropriate and thought-provoking. Much of our history is made real to us today because we have direct memories and connections to events in the past. These connections are through our ancestors. When we went to Beechey Island to expose the bodies of the three Franklin sailors, I had invited a descendant of one of the sailor's families to come with us. One day, as we melted the ice from around the body of John Hartnell, my friend came face to face with his great-great uncle. History is real."

How many of us would like to look into the face of one of our ancestors?
