1911 Census Launch (General)

by jimashton @, Monday, February 02, 2009, 07:10 (5846 days ago)

A number of people posting items about the 1911 Census are awaiting the availability of information from Ancestry.
Another method of searching that has previously applied has been micro fiche copies at Libraries and Records Offices. I have made enquiries at my local Library and have established that the early release of the 1911 Census is the result of a "Freedom of Information" legal challenge, it has however been stated that whilst the 1911 Census has been made available early, facilities that were put in place for the 1901 Census will apply in the same way, i.e. after 100 years have elapsed in January 2012 – this will include Ancestry.
All Census from the 1921 Census on are subject to a new law made in 1920 and will not be released until 100 years have elapsed. Not that it will concern me, but I understand the whole of the 1931 Census was destroyed by fire in WW2, the fire was not caused by enemy action. There was no Census in 1941.

"I have a photo copy of further information which I have received from my local library including the counties that are covered in the initial tranche, this I have sent to admin who will add it below"
