Hi Jim, Can you help me again! I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth Bennett c1739 who married John vaughan in 1762 Ruardean. You have said in another email that she was baptised 29 aug 1742 parents James bennett 1707 + Elizabeth.
I cannot find an this entry in the parish records - I can only find a baptism of an Elizabeth Bennett 1739 parents George bennett and margaret.......can you help? It is even more complicated having two Elizabeth Bennett/John vaughan marriages in my tree!

I have extracted the following information from the marriage licence of John Vaughan & Elizabeth Bennett:
18 MAY 1762 JOHN VAUGHAN married ELIZABETH BENNETT
By licence, both of this parish, both signed
JOHN is a Blacksmith aged 22
ELIZABETH is aged 16, her mother is BETTY BENNETT
Witnesses: James Bennett & Penny Beechman
I have therefore concluded that ELIZABETH (Betty) is the daughter of James Bennett & Betty Hazel who married at St Mary de Lode, Gloucester on 24 April 1740.

On the information you have given me it says Elizabeth was 16 when she married in 1762......If I follow the baptism record of 1742 this would make her at least 20 when she married.....can anyone help?

The baptism was actually April 1744 so she would have been 18, it is possible that I misread the age in the licence or that it was misrecorded, but surely the mothers name clinches it.

My only confusion is that in my other Elizabeth Bennett thread, Jim told me he had an Elizabeth Bennett baptised aug 1742.....and you have said it was infact april 1744 - which is quite a difference! But you both seem to be giving the same parents and marriage to John Vaughan! Please help!

If you search on Betty Bennett in the parish records you will find the baptism dated 22 April 1744. I can`t identify an Elizabeth/Betty baptised in 1742.

Hi Stephen & Graham
I have been away in Belgium & Germany and trying to catch up. I have to apologise to Stephen, I have just been checking my records and the 29 August 1742 baptism is for James & Elizabeth's son James. The baptism for Elizabeth (Betty) is 22 Apr 1744.
Has Graham any idea who the James & Elizabeth, parents of both are ?
Jim

I have the following:
James Bennett married Betty Hazel 24 April 1740 at St. Mary de Lode, Gloucester. They married by licence which says they were both of Ruardean, James a bachelor aged 22 & Betty a spinster aged 26.
I think Betty was the daughter of Richard & Elizabeth Hazel baptised 12 June 1711 at Littledean.
I have James buried 25 October 1747 & Betty buried 18 March 1778, according to my records James was a Malster and was the son of Mary, but I don`t have a baptism.

James Bennett who made a will on 22 Oct 1747 cannot be the James Bennett who died on 13 Oct 1747 (aged 3?) and was buried on 25 Oct 1747 in Ruardean. Can he?
