Rollings Haddock 1817-1852: family line (General)

by sarah_driscoll, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 08:55 (5795 days ago)

I have just started looking into my mums’ ‘Haddock’ ancestors and was wondering if anyone can help as I am getting confused by all the Rawlings/ Rollings/ Rollins/ Rawlins…and Josephs!

My GGrandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Haddock (b: Monmouth 1851-1912) and I am interested to find out some details about her father Rollings (b: English Bicknor 1817-1852??) and his Haddock relatives. I have found some lovely photos of Sarah-E’s brother - Tom Watts Haddock on this site and I was wondering if anyone has any photos or info on Rollings and his family line to get me started. (I think he married a dressmaker, Elizabeth Watts from Cinderford and that his father was Joseph – a forgeman.)

Any help greatly appreciated!!
Sarah

This thread would appear to be linked - the first name is rare and you might expect it to move down generations or to cousins...

Again, from fellow HADDOCK researchers notes re the marriage of Rollings HADDOCK to Elizabeth WATTS (daughter of William WATTS, a builder) June 1843 Flaxley Glos. On their marriage certificate his father is named as Joseph an Iron Founder, their address St Briavels.

Notes for Elis(z) WATTS
A Widow aged 45 in 1861 living with her sister Anne and her husband Amos FROWEN in Drybrook next to the Royal Oak pub. Elizabeth is a Milliner and it is noted that she is deaf. Her Son Tom WATTS HADDOCK is also living there, he is 15 and a stone mason. (Her daughter Sarah who would be nearly 10 is not there, nor her son William who would be 13).

More about Elis(z)beth WATTS

Oh brilliant! This is great info on Rollings and Elizabeth - thank you! (I was wondering the reason for his early demise and now have 2 siblings to add as well!)

Am I right in thinking then that the father of Josephs(b.1758) was Rawlins/Rollins (b.1754, Aberafon)?

Is the Thomas that you mention related to Rollings' Haddocks?

Sarah

I have clicked the envelope, next to your name to make contact direct, (not sure if you've picked my message up) as I have ten pages (very detailed) of your direct line which I received from a fellow researcher who also decends from Sarah Elizabeth HADDOCK, (died October 26 1912 in Bridgend Mid Glam. She married James JOHN 24 June 1882 in Haverfordwest Registry Office son of William JOHN.

Cause of death Sarah : Acute Bronchitis 14 days, Cardiac Failure. Medical Information : Death registered by her son William present at the death at 37 Highland Place, Bridgend.

As to my HADDOCK line and ROLLINGS. All I know is that Richard HADDOCK was married in English Bicknor - and our families were living close to each other on the 1841 census.
