Sarah Davis - Aston Ingham - Forest of Dean FHT Forum

I have recently discovered the surname of my maternal GG grandmother to be Davis and the 1901 census states that she was born in Aston Ingham. She married Henry Greenway who was also from the Forest in Kings Norton which is where my G Grandmother was born and her 2 siblings before moving back to the Forest in the early 1900's. I am unable to find any record of Sarah Ann Davis in the parish records. Is anyone able to help me?

I was unable to get a copy of their marriage cert as didn't know their date or year of marriage but as I now do I will order it. I did know that Henry's father was John and his mother was Mary.

It is possible that Sarah was not born Davis - was this common for people to change their name or maybe she was a widow?

It could well be.

There is no record of Sarah Ann the child on any of the census returns though?

I have contacted the Glos NHS Partnership Trust for information on her committal to Gloucester Lunatic Asylum so it will be interesting to see what they say. I have also ordered Sarah and Henry's marriage certificate so this may give me some more details.

This could be her possibly but it seems strange that her death would be registered in London but she was born in 1876.

It is a shame that there is no family around to ask to make sure this is definitely her.

I have now received a letter back from the medical officer. Sarah was admitted in 1909 with the reason as pregnancy and she stayed there until her death in 1933.

I am now having trouble with the fact that the 1901 and 1911 census state that she was born in 1876 but the 1881 census has Sarah as being born in 1866 which is 10 years difference. Her parents are defintely Thomas Davis (1825-1912) and Margaret (1841) and this is what the census in 1881 states but with a difference of 10 years in Sarah's birth date.
