Dear slowhands & Mike,
Thank you for the detailed information on Thomas Hatton.
I knew that my grandfather (Thomas b1871)and his wife 'emigrated' to Battersea, London, around 1900 from the Forest of Dean area, but I had no idea of the family history prior to that date. I am very grateful to you for providing it.
I never knew my grandfather, he unfortunately came into contact with a London bus and suffered fatal injuries - that would have been in the 1920's, although not having a death certificate I cannot be certain.
I would like to trace my branch of the Hatton line back further than 1830. Could you advise how best I might accomplish this? You will appreciate I have only recently become hooked on this hobby.
Best wishes
Peter Hatton

PARTRIDGE family

by D O'Brien @, Sunday, November 25, 2012, 23:45 (4380 days ago) @ slowhands

I am researching my grandfather's family, the Partridges who lived in the Coleford area. I believe his father was Timothy born 1856, married to Sarah Ann Surbey.
According to records Timothy died around 1904.
I discovered baptism records for my grandad's siblings but cannot find his.
My grand father was Sydney (Sidney) James Partridge born around 1897. At some point he and his mother and family moved to Bargoed after his father died. (possibly in Gloucester Lunatic Asylum)
I believe that Timothy's sister Lucy married a John Musto Roseblade and emigrated to Queensland - they are buried in Yungaburra Cemetery.
I would love to hear from anyone who has links with our family.

by MHampton @, Wednesday, January 23, 2019, 18:53 (2131 days ago) @ slowhands

The Timothy Partridge (1855-1904) you mention is the son of John Partridge (1829-1887) and Elizabeth Morgan (1836-1916). His father was a plasterer. The Lucy Partridge that married John Musto Roseblade was his Aunt not his sister. His Sister Lucy married Henry Kirby and she died in Gloucester in 1899. My ancestor is John's brother William Partridge (1834-1909). I have a list of the children Timothy had but have not gone further than that.

John Partridge's parents were John Partridge (1797-1856) born Monmouth Wales died Gloucester and Eliza Thompson (about 1796-1884) born London died Gloucester.John was a Carpenter. They had the following children: John (1829-1887) born Stillingfleet, East Riding, Yorkshire died Gloucester. Timothy Partridge (1831-?) born Yorkshire, William Partridge (1834-1909)born London died Ipswich Queensland,Eliza Partridge (1836-1906) born London died Gloucester, Thomas Partridge (1840-1840) born and died Coleford, Gloucester and Lucy Partridge (1842-1923) born Gloucester died Yungaburra, Queensland.

I have the Partridge family going back to the mid 1600's you can email me for further information.

Hello Peter
I came across your questions about the Hatton family in the Coleford area and believe that we may be related through Thomas Edwin Hatton who married Emily Partridge around 1897.
Emily Partridge was the sister of my Great Grandfather Timothy Partridge (b 1855/56) married to Sarah Ann Surbey/Surby.
My grandfather was their son Sidney/Sydney James Partridge (b 1897)
I know that Timothy died in 1904 and some time soon after that the family moved to Bargoed in Wales.
Your comment regarding the Hatton famil's move to Battersea in 1900 would explain why I can find no records on the Forest of Dean PArish records which is where I have been searching recently.

Kind regards
Diane

I just joined the FOD Family History. I know this is an old post, but I do know a little about the Hattons: Linnie Maude Sims Wyatt married Amos Hatton. Linnie Maude Wyatt was the daughter of John Wyatt and Jane Sims Wyatt. John was a brother to my grandfather, Thomas Henry Wyatt. I do know of some descendants who are still living, but would want to have their permission before I disclose names.

Hello Priscilla,
I have just noticed your response regarding Linnie Wyatt(1869-1938). She was married to a grand uncle of mine, Amos Hartley Hatton(1875-1946), who appears to have had varied careers ranging from a groom, domestic servant (1891) to railway signalman (1901) He moved about a bit too. From West Dean (1875) to Lambeth London on marriage to Linnie (1899) Hafodyrnys, Abersychan, Monmouth (1938) and Warwickshire (1946) where he died
He also benefitted quite handsomely from three wills (Thomas Hatton.Lucy Tooby (sister) Bertha Preece (sister)
I believe there were 6 children all born in Wales. These would be my 1st cousins 1x removed.
Best wishes
Peter Hatton
