Hi
Sorry for the late replied. John's brother - joesph (married Anne porter), had children - Martha sophia, albert, arthur, Saeletha (and sydney?).
Albert had 4 children - arthur, edith, sydney, Helen & Albert. Sydney then had 4 children - one of which is my Grandma (Avis).
we are now in Derby, as i believb Sydney moved up here for work on the train lines.
John & Josephs parents are Joesph and Charlotte and Joesph's parents John and Hannah (Higgins)? I am stuggling to branch off from my main line and find anything further back than that.
I am only tracing the Merry line at the moment....
How have you gotten on?
We visited Abenhall / cinderford / Drybrook area recently too.
look forward to hearing from you.
Joanne.

Hi Joannie
Where there any Merry gravestones still in tact i've
thought about visiting the area myself but not got round
too it yet.It seems we seperate with John & His brother Joseph?
I'm from the john & Harriet line & you from John's brother so i
suppose its John & Charlotte that we have in common.
Regards John.

Hi,
Yes thats correct – I think we separate at John & Joseph
The only info I have before that is Parents John & Charlotte and then apparently his parents John & Hannah – but I cant find much more on this. Do you have anything? Else or more than this? I would like to try and go back as far as possible.
We went to St John’s at Cinderford in the hope to find some graves – but didn’t find anything – though there was a note on the church door saying they were doing a clean up project and a record of all the graves – so I will contact them in a few months to see how they are getting on.
we also went to Drybrook (I think) but nothing there either but there was so many and alot of the older ones had broken and were stacked up.
In Cinderford we saw St Annal’s road where Saeletha lived at St Annals farm – but he is more of my side.
I have my info all printed off and then a typical family tree actually written out on A3 – which I am going to transfer to an excel spreadsheet as soon as I can – so if you are interested I can email you this so you see how the Merry name expanded from other brothers etc... !
Best regards
Joanne.

Hi
Yes i would be interested in the tree.
Theres quite a few Merry's here in castleford from
the 3 brothers who came up here to work who would have
been your josephs nephews?
I'm on Ancestry.com but can't go back any further than you!
you say John & Josephs father was also a John but i have him
down to be a Joseph who's wife was charlotte Blewett have i got
it wrong.I did'nt know about his father.
There's a photo on somewhere on these pages of John & Harriet Merry
at their daughters wedding have you seen it? i wonder
if it's our Merry's
keep in touch. Regards john

Hi,
Maybe i have got confused with all the Joesph & John's!!
I will put everything into a spreadsheet and send it up to you (Send me you personal email address). Its difficult to go back any further and i was just guessing at dates on the parish records.
My Grandma is 83 and she is the oldest relative - so would like to get as much info for her as possible and then maybe when they have sorted the graves out at St John's at Cinderford go back. Its a lovely area for a walk round the forest too.
Definately keep in touch. Best regards Joanne.

Hi
Is it Joannie or Joanne? anyway thanks, my email address is
[Deleted] or [Deleted] My oldest
Merry is my uncle Alan who's 90 now and can still tell me
tales his dad told him of the 3 brothers coming to Cas and
promising to send money back to remaining sisters to help look
after their parents ( John & Harriet ). These three were likely
lads and nomoney was sent back so the sisters hopped up to Cas
and gave them telling off.I still dont think any money made its
way back.anyway look forward to hearing from you
