Peter Nash born Hewelsfield (General)
by Margaret Gazzard , Monday, February 27, 2006, 23:35 (6844 days ago)
I have hit a brick wall trying to find birth details of Peter Nash. His dob is between 1821 and 1825(it varies depending on which census you look at. His birthplace is given as Hewelsfield, Stansfield or just Forest of Dean.
I would also like to trace his second marriage to Mary Elizabeth ? about 1870.
Any help would be appreciated

in 1871 Mary E is given as a Widow, living separate from Peter Nash.
Although some of her children appear to have been born before 1861 I can't find them ( however I think this is the family)
1861 Causeway Rd Cinderford
Enoch Nash abt 1829 Little Dean, Gloucestershire, England Head East Dean Gloucestershire
Elizabeth Nash abt 1832 East Dean, Gloucestershire, England Wife East Dean Gloucestershire
Anne Teague abt 1860 East Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter East Dean Gloucestershire
Emma Teague abt 1858 East Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter East Dean Gloucestershire
Mary Nash Teague abt 1857 East Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter East Dean Gloucestershire
1861
Julia Nash abt 1794 Horsefied, Gloucestershire, England Head East Dean Gloucestershire
Paul Nash abt 1835 E Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son East Dean Gloucestershire
3 doors from Peter Nash in 1851!
1851
Quilla Nash abt 1796 Horsfield, Gloucestershire, England Widow East Dean Gloucestershire
Enock Nash abt 1828 Horsfield, Gloucestershire, England Son East Dean Gloucestershire
Paul Nash abt 1832 Little Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son East Dean Gloucestershire
< Horsfield could easily be Hewlsfield mis recorded>
So looks like Peter is living with his sister in law in later life...
and this is probably Mary E Nash (nee Teague)

Thanks you for all this butI am even more confused now
I was fairly sure that the Nash children were from Peter's first marriage to Caroline who died around 1870 and that he married Mary very soon afterwards. I'd very much like to know who his parents were, Quilla? - he must have had some!

There are two groups of children/families in 1871, they have merged by 1881 ( and it may just be Peter's natural son Edwin living with them at that stage)
Did Peter and Mary ever marry - I cannot find a refernce in the BMD yet - it is possible they lived as man and wife..

If Quilla Nash is Peter's mother then this marriage will be of help:
From GFHS Marriage Index:
15 October 1821 John NASH married Quillia MILLS by Banns at Bisley

I think Haresfield.
The 1841 Census entry tells us that John died before that date and we have this entry from GFHS Burial Index:
Date: 7 SEP 1834
First Name: JOHN
Surname: NASH
Age: 37
Burial Register: HARESFIELD 1813-1862
Place of Abode: HARESFIELD
There is an area called Stanfield in Parish of Rodborough.
And adjoining Haresfield is Standish
