Has Ancestry changed it's format (General)
I haven't used Ancestry for a couple of weeks and when I visited earlier I was met with completely different pages, I tried to use the new set up but the old search pages were far easier. If you knew all the search info they ask for you wouldn't be trying to do a search. Has Ancestry changed or have I entered some winter wonderland? Merry Christmas fred

The search interface was updated sometime ago - I find too the "Old style" more successful :-)

You can return your search method as I have by clicking "Old Search" in the right hand corner of the search box when you go to the search page.
I wish Ancestry would stop messing about, there are several annoying things like the national archives logo popping up in front of census pages and charging to access things that I need whilst paying the basic subscription price for the so-called "essentials" that I have paid for over the years and essentially now rarely need.

I agree, every time I go into Ancestry it seams to have changed its format. Maybe someone should tell them.....if it works - don't fix it!!!

Yes, I too wish that Ancestry would stop changing the format of their web site. In fact its very rare that I use it now because of the format changes and the ever increasing charges they continually implemented - with a charge on nearly every search there's not much they don't charge for. As the site has become very user unfriendly and the costs involved I have gone completely off the site. My main gripe is the fact that the information which I have gathered at my expense and put into my ancestry is now being used by the site and making money for the Co.

I use Ancestry almost every day and have found it invaluable and straightforward to use. I would not expect to access so many databases for free. If I was really strapped for cash, I'd access Ancestry for free in a public library, but to sit in the comfort of my home and use all their databases for hour after hour for about three pounds a week seems pretty good value.
As with any tool, you do have to work to get the best out of it. LDS, 1911 census and even the Parish Records on this site have different ways to search, and I believe that this variety can be very useful, especially when those brick walls are met.

Ancestry is worth using especially for finding unusual things, e.g. looking at ships' records to see when people travelled and to and from which ports, not just for emigration but also for when people went by ocean liner on holidays, cruises, ocean crossings. I've even found out what school one of my ancestors went to from it as well as finding the usual census material.
