SAUL/GABB marriage (General)
by spellweaver, Sunday, January 24, 2010, 18:26 (5492 days ago)
Seeking any record of a marriage between JANE SAUL b1806 in Ashleworth and JAMES GABB. Expected marriage date between 1827 and 1830, location unknown.
Also any information on JOB EYNON b.c.1795 in Dymock(?), wife MARY, possibly nee MARY ALDER b1787 in Ashleworth. Possible children, HENRIETTA EYNON b1817 and WILLIAM b1819. Job and Mary Eynon were living at Bromsberrow Heath at the time of the 1851 and 1861 censuses.
Any help on either of these would be much appreciated.

I am having to search my CD by Christian name 'Job' as the surname is spelt different ways.... and seeing by the census', Job was a Bricklayer. (1841 census, Gloucs. St Mary De Lobe Job EYNON - 45 Bricklayer)

Possible Dymock baptism sometimes IRONS, sometimes EYNONS, but parents Job and Sarah
21 February 1796, born 18 September 1795
Job IRONS, parents Job and Sarah
James Winniate EYNONS - 15 July 1783
John EYNONS - 16 May 1784
Elizabeth EYNONS - 14 April 1786
Sarah IRONS - 15 May 1788
Mary EYNONS - 15 January 1792
Robert IRONS - 20 April 1794
There is a death at Dymock 21 February 1871 of a Job PYNON age 74 of Bromsberrow Heath Dymock.
The surname ONIONS appears on various census for DYMOCK - so a few variants of this surname (Gloucestershire accent!!)

Thanks a lot - you are an absolute star! Loved the comment about the Gloucestershire accent. Some of my ancestors came from the Midlands, and judging by the permutations of their surnames, they must have had very strong Black Country accents.
Mary Alder was the sister of Elizabeth Alder, who married Josiah Saul in 1801 in Maisemore. The connection between the Eynons and Sauls was one of my "loose ends" - I hate those!

EYNON/ALDER/COOPEY marriage
by spellweaver, Monday, February 15, 2010, 17:18 (5470 days ago) @ talmac
Hi Janice
Some of the parish records for Ashleworth are available on the web via Genuki, as well as through this site. I've found these useful in tracing the various bits of my tree.
Jasper Alder's will says he was a Horse trader, and that he owned a messuage and garden in Newpond. Jasper was buried 22/6/1800 in Ashleworth, which would fit with the IGI record tidily, and his eldest son was John, which would fit too.
Though over half of the Alder children died young, the "survivors" all seem to have made old bones....The Sauls were also a long lived lot.
Louisa Saul, daughter of Josiah Saul and Elizabeth Alder, married George Moorfield and had 9 children. The demise of the wool trade caused the family to move out of the area, and the children and grandchildren settled all over the UK, from Kent to Yorkshire.

Interesting - I am descended from Clara Coopey who was a daughter of Haywood Coopey and Ann Onions - someone in this line discovered Coopey Falls in Oregon and a deceased uncle of mine gave the family papers to the museum in Portland Oregon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coopey_Falls
The falls were discovered by Charles Coopey who was a tailor and emigrated to Oregon. I believe that line died out

I would like to thank all of you on this link for your information as I have been looking for information on Job Eynon/Onions from Dymock married to Mary Alder for ages. My ancestor was their daughter Ann she married Hayward Coopey on 11/02/1848 in the parish of St John the Baptist and I had been trying to find any siblings of hers, as I know a lot about Hayward. Ann's mother Mary Alder was one of at least 8 children born to Jasper Alder & Sarah Phillips who married llth July 1775 in Ashelworth. Jasper Alder died aged 55years about 22/6/1800 & Sarah Alder died aged 57 about 10/3/1805.
Again many thanks to you all & I will be on this site more often as I have just joined.

Hi talmac
I have nine children of Jasper Alder and Sarah Phillips, but only 4 who survived to adulthood. I have a copy of the will of Jasper Alder, which names them as son John b1775, Ann Smith (Ann Alder married Thomas Smith 26/2/1799 at St Nicholas in Gloucester), Elizabeth and Mary Alder. Would love to know more about Mary and her descendants.
I believe Jasper Alder was born in Kings Stanley in 1744, but have not managed to access any records from there. Does anyone know if these records are available anywhere online?

EYNON surname -> BAYNHAM
by slowhands , proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Monday, January 25, 2010, 19:24 (5491 days ago) @ spellweaver
This surname derives from an Old Welsh personal name Eignion or Enion - from 'einion' meaning stability or fortitude.
The forename is first recorded in the Pipe Rolls of Shropshire (1159), 'Ennian filius (son of) Gieruero' and as Eynon or Eynun (1221). It is first recorded as a surname in the late 13th Century. Alternate spellings were Heizhnon (1327), Eynon (1327) John Eynon - The Subsidy Rolls of Worcestershire, Onnyon (1568) and Ineon (1593).
In the modern idiom the name has twelve spelling variations including Eynon, Inions, Anyan, Onion(s), O'Nions, Hennion etc.. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of William Anyun, which was dated 1279, The Hundred Rolls of Buckinghamshire, during the reign of King Edward 1, 'The Hammer of the Scots', 1272 - 1307.
The Welsh form - Ap EYNON may be responsible for BAYNHAM, which as we know is found around the Forest and Borders

EYNON - Port Eynon
by rookancestrybest , United Kingdom, Monday, February 15, 2010, 21:29 (5470 days ago) @ slowhands
Isn't there also a Port Eynon in South Wales? I appear to have some Eynons in my family history, they appear to have come originally from Pembroke, and I was assuming that they might have originated from Port Eynon way back, but perhaps I now should revise this view?
