I am reaserching Mary Jenkins nee Birt. Mary married my 3x GGrandfather on Feb 8th 1831.

The parish record indicates that her father was Thomas Birt

Could Mary be the daughter of the same Thomas Birt verger/vicar of Bream/Newland?

Your help is much appreciated

Kind Regards

Tony Jenkins

Hi Tony,

I have Mary in my tree - I have her as one of the approx nine children of Thomas Birt and Johanna/Susannah Sheldon, who married on 2nd August 1795 - and I have Mary baptised 20th September 1801 in Newland. I am not sure if her father Thomas Birt was the verger though - perhaps someone else has more information than I do!

Thanks for your suggestion

My thoughts are based on the burial record of Mary Jenkins in 1831.

The burial record indicates that she was 31 suggesting a birth date of about 1800.

Do you have any more information to confirm that Mary wife of Richard Jenkins is the D/O Thomas and Johanna/Susannah Birt

Hi Tony,
Have done some more detailed research, and think I agree with you that the Mary born and baptised in 1800 is almost certainly the Mary Birt that married Richard Jenkins, and then died following the birth of her first child James in 1831, aged 31. Her parents would therefore be Thomas Birt, and Mary Morse, and not my Thomas Birt.

I have amended my records accordingly!

Kind regards,
Christine
