I have some Adams' related to me who went to live in New York (Poughkeepsie) and in Pennsylvania. My family is also related to the Teagues. I am wondering if there is a connection? I know Adams is a relatively common name but there are other coincidences, e.g. my family lived at Coalway, Lane End but had relatives in Herefordshire.
The Adams' I have were: Ann Mary Adams married to Charles J Rook(e) who went to Poughkeepsie in 1848. Two of her brothers also emigrated to the same area and one of them (George) had sons and a widow who moved to a small village in, Pennsylvania just over the border from Poughkeepsie. One of these sons was a blacksmith all his life.
Ann Mary's photograph is on this website and so is that of her son.
The brothers who emigrated were:George with his wife Eliza[beth] who emigrated in 1854 and Edward who emigrated with his wife Eliza[beth] at the same time. Charles Rook(e) died in 1854 a few months after his brothers-in-law reached the USA. I have never found the cause of his death or any records of his death or burial though I have a letter from Ann Mary which states when he died written four years later. Ann Mary Adams probably had a number of other brothers, certainly one called John who died in Worcester Royal Infirmary in 1858. A Teague also married another Charles Rooke in a later generation and it is likely that another Adams married a Rook in an earlier generation. This makes it not impossible that Ann Mary Adams might have been distantly related to her own husband, no closer than a second cousin.
