LAVENDER family 1786 to 1945 (General)

by ladis, Friday, May 21, 2010, 11:48 (5378 days ago)

I am trying to confirm the family tree of Amos and Violet LAVENDER

James Lavender wife Ann had 5 Children -Mary, Charles, Amos, James, John,

Amos, marries Elizabeth ELSMORE and they have 9 children
James Samuel, William, John, Amos George, Emma, Mark, Thomas, Annie, Edward Albert,

Mark marries Mary Ann HUZZEY and they have 9 children
William, Charlotte, Edward, Amos, John, Mark Richard, James Albert, Harriet, Stephen David,

The son Amos marries Violet Mary EVANS on 3 Oct 1926, Abercarn, Newport,
Amos died in 1946, and Violet in 1944.

I am doing this research for an elderly family friend, who is the daughter of Amos Lavender, both her parents dying when she was a small child, and she was raised an an orphan. I think the family tree above is correct, but I was wondering if anyone has access to transcriptions of the marriage, of Amos and Violet, which would give parent details and which would confirm that I am correct, or if anyone has links to this family. I would appreciate any help in this matter.
Lynn

No I don't have a certificate of the marriage, and I didn't know if transcriptions would have been done of Abercarn Marr. or not.

His dau. told me he lied about his age to go to War 1, and that he told her he was a twin. That fits in with the Amos who was born in 1891 to Amos and Elizabeth ELSMORE, and also a John who was born at the same time, who may be his twin. His daughter has told me her address when she was in primary school, was 1 Machine House, Abercarn, and there is an Amos LAVENDER in the 1911 census living at 1 Machine House, with his father Mark, Mother Mary Ann and siblings, Lottie, Mark, James, and Stepen David, this is where I got the link back to Amos & Elizabeth ELSMORE

His daughter also told me that is where they were living when her mother died and her father died either the next year or year after, she thinks it was about 18 months after her mother.

This extra info helps make more sense !

I have now ruled out Amos 1888 - he had died prior to 1891

Hello Lynn,

My great grandmother was Mary Ann Lavender who married Samuel Walford (his picture is on this site), Mary Ann was the daughter of John Lavender and Anie Voice, John is the John you mentioned who was the son of Amos Lavender and Elizabeth Elsmore. I have a Lavender tree which is attached, they were in Monmouth before Lydbrook and Abercarn:-

Lynn,

I am now home from work and can see my records and Mark Lavender c 1856 who lived at Machine Houses who married Mary Ann Huzzey was the younger brother of my great great grandfather John Lavender c 1850.

The direct ancestors of John and Mark that I have found are as follows:-

Their parents were Amos Lavender born Monmouth 30 Sept 1825 died Lydbrook 26 Dec 1876 and Elizabeth Elsmore c Ledbury 21 July 1822 died Abercarn Dec 1906.

The parents of Amos were James Lavender born about 1779 (1841 census has him born Monmouthshire, 1851 census Glamorganshire, and 1861 Ebbw Vale, I have found no baptism for James!) he died 25 April 1865 at Pontymister and Ann Price who was a Catholic c 4 April 1790 at Perthir, Rockfield died Monmouth Dec 1860.

The parents of Ann Price were William Price of Mitchel Troy a Carpenter and Frances Rosser who was a Catholic c 18 April 1762 at Perthir died Monmouth 20 Feb 1841.

The parents of Frances Rosser were James Rosser and Ann his wife.

Elizabeth Elsmore's parents were John Elsmore a Plumber and Glazier c Little Marcle 15 April 1787 died Ledbury July 1837 and Ann Lewis c Ledbury 3 Aug 1788 died Ledbury Feb 1828.

The parents of John Elsmore were Thomas Elsmore born about 1757 died Ledbury Sept 1829 and Susannah Robinson c Much Marcle 25 April 1762 died Ledbury Feb 1835.

The parents of Ann Lewis were Benjamin Lewis and Elizabeth Hankins who married at Ledbury 27 July 1778.

The parents of Susannah Robinson were William Robinson a Blacksmith c Brockhampton 2 Dec 1725 died Much Marcle 6 Jan 1794 and Hannah Drew born about 1730 died Much Marcle 14 Feb 1793.

The parents of William Robinson were Richard Robinson also a Blacksmith of Much Marcle born about 1695 died Much Marcle 1742 and Anne Terry c Brockhampton 29 July 1699.

I am pretty sure you can go further back than Richard Robinson as the Much Marcle records are now on this site!

The parents of Anne Terry were James Terry and Ann his wife.

Andrew.

LAVENDER family 1786 to 1945

Hi Andrew
I'm an Aussie descendant of Charlotte LAVENDER, daughter of James Lavender and Ann Jones. I've just discovered this web site, and am quite overwhelmed with the amount of info you have about this family. I have only been able to get back as far as James Lavender and Ann Price. I'm most interested to know where you discovered the PRICE details for Ann's family.
I've also struggled with the fact that some of their children were christened R.C and others at the Mary St. Independent chapel in Monmouth. A recent discovery on the internet led me to the records of the Monmouth (Catholic) Mission, where in 2 christening records James is described as "non-Catholic". This would possibly explain the different church records.
Their son, James, married Ann Jones at the established church in Llanllwch in 1837, and their daughter, Charlotte (my ancestor) married John James in the Hermon Baptist chapel in 1863.
I have the certificates for my branch of the family if you need any more details.
Is there any chance of finding more about James b. c.1778?
Thanks for sharing so much with all of us, Lavender descendants, scattered all over the world!

Hi Andrew

James Lavender (Born 1791) is my 4th great-grandfather. I was wondering if you've been able to trace the Lavender family any further back than James?

all the best

Thanks for the help and extra info,
Eileen, Iris, and Evelyn, are the daughters of Amos, but somehow, I hadn't been able to locate Evelyns details, I have heard of a niece Susan, but not about the other, I will get back in touch with Amos's dau. and ask if she knows, she had not heard of Rosamond, or Derek.
