Mary Ann Kear (General)
by unknown, Saturday, June 26, 2010, 19:37 (5341 days ago)
I believe my Grandfather's parents were Mary Ann Kear born 1852 and John Bennett born 1863. John was born in Cinderford and Mary in Bream. They married in 1900 and had 5 children between about 1877 and 1888. I'm now looking for Mary Ann Kear's parents and John Bennett's parents. Can anyone help?

We had the wrong John Bennett. It turns out that my John Bennett, born in 1863, was the one that took his family to Yorkshire looking for work then came back. He was not the one born in 1847 that went over the river to Westbury on Trym. The last search was connected with my Grandfather whose parents I had not found when we were in touch before. Now I know Sam's parents were John (1863) and Mary (1852) and I am trying to go further back. Thanks for your continued interest.

I'm sure "we" have the correct line for you in the previous post looking for Samuel Bennett.
I have added this morning dauughter Florence who became a Cook and had a daughter Frances, which fits with your information.

My apologies. John was born, as you said, in about 1851. (I have looked at my records and I don't know where I got 1863 from.) In 1881 census John was living in Factory row with 2 daughters. By 1891 they have 3 daughters and 2 sons.
Further back, is John's father James? I can see a John Bennett with brother William and sister Mary with James and Deborah as Parents in the 1861 census. Do you think this is right? John is a common name, it's likely I have the wrong one. Are there other choices?
Many regards,Barbara

Re Mary Kear. Were her parents Enoch (1836) and Mary (1833)? Haven't found Mary Kear on any censuses before 1881.

I have found a burial record for Mary Ann Court Kear dated Feb 16th 1883 so I think this is not Mary Ann who married John Bennett in 1900 and had 5 children. I am now looking at the other Kear records you uncovered, thanks.

Elias KEAR 1847 - ? Bream Eaves

Elias Kear who married Mary Ann Wilding was brother to my GGGrandmother Charlotte. I've been unable to find any trace of Elias and Mary Ann after their marriage in 1871. The witnesses at their wedding, Thomas and Mary Baldwin, were I think, Elias's sister and brother in law. They moved to Castleford, West Yorkshire as did another 6 of Elias's brothers and sisters.I did wonder whether Elias had gone there too but have found no trace.
regards
Anne

Hi Anne
Elias Kear and Mary Ann Wilding followed the many of the Kear and Lee family members that emigrated to New Zealand, this family settling in the Westland area.
Paperspast.co.nz a free to access to digitisation of local papers does have some information about the family. I believe that they lost a son in the Brunner mine cdisaster here in New Zealand.
I haven't quite worked out where this Elias fits in relation to our family of Kear's however there is sure to be a connection.
My husband is descended from two children of William Kear and Ann Grindall's children who emigrated to New Zealand and their descendants reconnected generations on. Such a small world that we are interconnected through.
Hope this information helps.
Regards
Judi Smitheram
