Dear All.... I just wanted to say thank you for all your invaluable help. After using the information you gave me and the records available on ancestry.co.uk it seems pretty certain that I am indeed a descendant of Richard Tyndall, born 1789 in Dursley. He was my great-great-great Grandfather.

I am in the process of filling in the entire family tree on ancestry.co.uk which I will leave as public if anyone is interested but the basics are :

Richard Tyndall (b 1789 Dursley, lived Littledean, d 1875 Cinderford)
m
Sarah Leonard (b 1792, Coaley)
(married 26 May 1812 Old Sodbury d 1869)

They seem to have had 11 children.
One of these Henry was my great-great grandfather)

Henry Tyndall (b 21 Oct 1814 Tewkesbury, d 1888 Stoke Newington
m
Margaret ? Mary Ann
(b Ludlow 1817)

According to the London City Mission Obituary of my great-grandfather (Richard Tyndall) his father (Henry) was a master wheelwright in Great Ormond Yard, London with a prosperous business. They wanted Richard to go into the ministry but he persued business interests until becoming a London City Missionary in 1885. It also says that his grandfather (Richard Tyndall from Dursley) was a Baptist Minister which would explain his travelling and why the children were born in different places.

Son of Henry and Margaret was Richard Tyndall who married Elizabeth Todner Watson (from country Durham). They had two daughters - my Grandmother Winifred May Tyndall (b 1908 London) and Kathleen Annie Tyndall b 1911, my great-aunt.
(There seems to have been a previous marriage and a son, Reginald but this is a complete surprise and there is no family knowledge at all).

They lived in Greenwich and Charlton, London.

Gran married a Reginald Gilbert - they had two children, Antony Gilbert (my uncle) and my mother Kathleen Rosemary Gilbert (b 1938). They lived in Bromley, Kent.

Mum married Brian Steer (Dad) in 1961 and then they had me in 1964! I have two siblings as well.

Well, you didn't need to know all of that but I am very excited to trace my family back to Gloucestershire and am planning a trip with mum in September to visit some key places. thank you all once again and if any of you are interested in the Tyndall family line in general please get in touch.

Best wishes
Sue Steer
